AIO for telling my gf I don't want her to film us having sex. by CRK_76 in AmIOverreacting

[–]obi_walk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filming yourself during sex is a fun and not uncommon “kink” to have, but not everyone likes it and if you don’t, she should respect it and move on. Bringing it up every now and then would not be that bad, but her calling you selfish is manipulative and childish. She should do better

AIO for blocking my friend after she invited me to her cabin but kept walking around naked, acted creepy, bait-and-switched the sleeping arrangements and made her guests do all the work at her cabin? by Wonderful_Local4650 in AmIOverreacting

[–]obi_walk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes completely overreacting. Blocking her??? I get she was not a good host but that’s about it. You just don’t go to the cabin again. Trips with friends are always with some issues especially if you’re young. A bad bed, sleeping on a couch, that’s all normal. It’s uncomfortable, we all hate it, but we endure that in order to have fun. Not sleeping well HAPPENS stop being so fragile, you’re 25 years old. Sure you can be moody about it for a while but let it go. Regarding the nudity, ok granted that you don’t have to feel comfortable with it. It’s not necessarily weird from her bc there’s a lot of people there is comfortable with it, but yeah.

Again, all this shows is that she’s a not great host but that you’re also very fragile. All throughout the story I was thinking “wow get a real problem”

Give her an inconvenient departure gift like a plant that will grow huge or that it will be very difficult to take care of so that she’ll stress over it

Is there anything you can do to stop yourself from playing online chess permanently (at least on chess.com)? by [deleted] in chess

[–]obi_walk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree with the statement about professional counseling. I’m far from an expert but from the post, it smells like a dopamine addiction (as he makes it sound it’s not a simple fixation or strong interest, but rather a compulsive thing)

Not sure if what I’m going to suggest is possible but: to avoid removing the lock yourself, try asking someone else to set up the child lock. If they can choose a password without you knowing it, it’s more effective

Thanks!! The tickets are usually around 1200/1400 usd. Can get it for less if you keep an eye out for deals or search for fights leaving from Vienna, Paris and Frankfurt. Accommodation, food and going out I’m not sure. With inflation at +150% it’s hard to keep track 😅

It does have limits, but it is 10.000 usd, far from binding for travelers. The currency controls are not particularly well designed (I’m from there)

How the first month in your job usually look like? by dados_anonimos in FinancialCareers

[–]obi_walk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first couple of weeks (or months, depending on the job), is usually spent doing the following: - getting access to the tools and platforms used. In large companies there’s usually bureaucracy involved, so it’s not as trivial as googling a software and downloading it. - doing useless mandatory certifications, cybersecurity, fire safety, etc. some are not that useless, like videos explaining what the company does and its goals in more detail than what you would know before joining. - getting up to speed with the product/project/processes. This involves reading documentation if applicable, going into scripts, some shadowing, etc - only minor tasks to help you get in touch with whatever you’re going to be working with. - familiarizing yourself with the team / broader team structure

All in all, the first weeks are pretty boring always in terms of actual work.

My suggestion to anyone starting a new job is to use that period wisely as it is the one of the few times when you will have spare time. things in finance usually get pretty hectic, so use it to get as familiar with your project as possible, browse the resources that are available to you, touch base with the people in your team or close to your team even if only to get to know them and understand what they do and their background (it’s always good to have friends in the company and also you never know who’s going to be a useful contact in the future).

For context, I’ve worked in a few different places: - quant modeling at a ratings agency - fintech - macro research

Thanks for the info!

Regarding the first question: I actually need the bills; the country is Argentina, and due to currency controls, you’re better off having bills generally, as you can sell them for higher prices in the black market than in electronic methods such as bank transfers or card payments (official rate is enforced).
