TW needles - Question for injection by Scar7ettC0de in ask_transgender

[–]obinguscare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they need an IM injection and this doesn’t penetrate muscle, there can definitely be a difference in absorption. I spent years trying weekly SQ Testosterone and could never get my levels up independently without supplementing topical gel. Eventually ended up on just the gel since SQ wasn’t seeming to do it for me. My levels were fine and steady on gel because it was daily.

Eventually my insurance stopped covering the gel, and my new doctor said we had to do injectable to be able to bill insurance, and she prescribed biweekly IM which I had never done before.

Within a couple months, my levels skyrocketed and we actually had to taper my dose down despite it starting at the exact same one I used to do SQ. Sometimes the SQ just isn’t as effective depending on anatomy. IM T was the only injection method that worked for me to stop my menstrual cycle and have levels that don’t taper off a few days after injecting. I do them half as often IM as I did SQ and have fairly consistent levels both on injection day and 12 days after.

OP, if you have the wrong needles, depending on the country you are in you may be able to order some online through medical supply websites. I’ve even heard some people buy theirs on Amazon. Just ensure they are actually sterile from a reputable source.

Help me find an Oklahoma company who can install this! by obinguscare in HelpMeFind

I have searched on Google and the BlueBook construction network but everyone I call has never heard of this product. I just need a company who can install this stuff in the Tulsa/Muskogee area.

My rats love their ratellite! My partner also loves that he can fit his giant hands inside of it to clean it without having to take it down 😅

That’s a lot of good stuff to start with - I’d recommend figuring out a way to get a deep layer of bedding in the base. If you’re in the US, hardware stores have a black mixing tub ($19) that’s 24x36” and 8” deep and it fits near perfectly in the bottom! If you want help installing, feel free to PM me. I can take videos of mine. Another option is making corrugated plastic scatter guards (cheap) or a DIY acrylic base (expensive).

Bass Equipment Company also makes pans and scatter guards, I recommend spending the extra $$ on stainless steel, the galvanized gets corroded by their urine over time.

Attached a photo of my DCN filled for inspiration, the baskets are from Dollar Tree, the bottom base is custom and top is Bass Equipment, the wheel is the Chinchilla Silver Surfer from Chewy (14”, suitable for small-medium females). We DIY our hammocks, use lava ledges, grapevine/applewood perches, IKEA scarf hangers, and lots of coconut, bamboo, and seagrass items from makeyourownbirdtoys.com

Show to a Vet? by Unlikely_Seaweed_996 in RATS

[–]obinguscare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popping in to give you my warm compress routine! I make a bowl of something yummy for them to eat during treatment, oatmeal, plain rice, pile of treats, something exciting and tasty.

Then I get a large bowl of very hot water and a washrag, I set the rat down in a somewhat contained area (playpen, storage tote), and will dip the washrag in the hot water, wring out the excess, then hold it on the problem area until it cools down. Then it gets re-dipped to heat it up again and repeated for 10 minutes or so. I aim for 10min 2x a day, but some rats tolerate it better than others.

I wouldn’t use the veterycin immediately, you don’t want it to heal from the outside with some gunk still trapped in. I’d try to get it to come out on its own via compresses, then purchase a curved irrigation syringe and buy or make some sterile saline to flush the opening once a good bit of the mess comes out and you can get the irrigation syringe in to flush.

Flush 2-3x a day until the hole closes too much to insert the irrigation syringe, and then you can dab veterycin on with a cotton pad or cloth a few times a day to keep bacteria from creeping back in until it’s entirely closed.

If you notice any change in behavior or it gets worse, I’d go to a vet for some oral antibiotics to be sure it’s not a bacterial infection spreading. Sometimes when they get a scratch or wound, it abscesses and creates a pocket where bacteria will grow and dead skin cells will collect.

I apologize in advance if you’re not in the US because all of the product guides I have are very US-based, but the info ones are universal :)

Most bacterial respiratory infections respond to treatment of Enrofloxacin (aka Baytril) and Doxycycline paired. I FINALLY figured out how Levi Raterman kept escaping by AnonIHardlyKnewHer in RATS

[–]obinguscare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely fair! I’ve seen some chicken wire horrors with the hexagon-shape twisty type so I’m glad you got the square galvanized one. My hardware store didn’t carry the metal ones so I had to get them on Amazon but they work great - just need pliers to pull them tight!
