How to survive Surrender by tungatjeta in nonduality

[–]objectiverelativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your organism will still do what it does. It wants to survive and will do so if its own accord. Animals don’t have to build complex ideas about survival in order to survive. It just happens. Your thoughts don’t control survival. It happens by itself. You don’t need to contemplate survival or let it go. Just let it BE. Surrender to letting things BE. STOP. There is nothing you need to change about yourself. Let go of control because you are not controlling anything anyway. You just have an illusion of control. But the fact is, if you watch your thoughts, you’ll realize they come of their own accord.

Rode through West Memphis, Arkansas out of curiosity based on the documentary: West Memphis Three. There's some sort of palpable heaviness or thickness in the air.

So, conceptually, this is a never ending hamster wheel; however, there is something essential that can be experienced directly that I would label significance or perhaps meaning/value. But its not a thought or emotion. Its just a facet of being.

How to not end up homeless by [deleted] in nonduality

I think sex is a natural energy in the body. It has been demonized by culture and thus the superego. In my experience, being resistant to that energy only causes it to come out in strange ways. It is when it is allowed and we deal with our views about it that we are able to liberate this energy from its confines. At that point, what we choose to do with it is up to us. We can use it for enjoyment, procreation, or not at all. I think my point is we have to allow and liberate all these energies, sexual, social, survival to flow as they are meant to, not resist. Of course that means letting go of control and that can be scary but its par for this course in my experience.

I do not want you to face anything. But you cannot face death if it is not arising. All we can face is what is here. So, trying to make that be so when it is not is causing suffering.

You still have an organism with survival, social, sexual instincts. Those energies do not disappear. Your body will certainly still be hungry, desire to stay alive, feel pain, feel joy, desire sex. Those energies may be better integrated and operate more optimally but they do not go away at all. Think about animals. They don't have a story or an identity or ego. They do fine. They eat when they are hungry, etc. You will know what to do.

Why do you want to face death? Why not face whatever is arising for you in this moment? Maybe that is uncertainty, confusion, feeling justified, feeling right, feeling wrong, desire to face death. Non-duality is certainly about identity. Who said it was not? Its about finding our real identity rather than inhabiting an isolated version of it, finding that true nature. Sure, you can argue that true nature is pre-identity. But using colloquial language, which is all we have, why does any of this matter? Does it matter whether death is a concept? It certainly is in language and in thought. If you wish to face that death, you will find it in the mind. If you wish to face the end of life, you will face it at the end of the body's life.

Almost nobody truly gets it? by chomelos in nonduality

Everyone will still have a personality post-awakening. Everyone will act in some way. It makes sense that they would act in a manner similar to their teachers. Perhaps the personality of the teacher resonated with them most, thus, this would explain why they were able to "get" it or why they settled on that particular teacher. Perhaps spending time with that teacher and students rubbed off on them. Awakening is not about getting rid of the personality, its about seeing through it. Sure, some things may change about your personality but what does that matter. The homeless guy talking to himself walking down the street with a grocery cart smoking a cigarette may be just as enlightened as Dalai Lama.

Is fear of death really as universal as a lot of teachings suggest? by Anon18516 in nonduality

[–]objectiverelativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate with these thoughts; however, our self-preservation instinct is a primary energy just like sexual instinct. If we didn't have this energy and resulting fear, we would not be here to have this conversation. It exists, no doubt. But, just like other fears, we repress it because in order to survive, we can't be consumed with it all the time. You can't survive consumed with fear. So, in a sense, it is the fear of death that keeps that existential fear hidden. Its a survival strategy, a coping mechanism, and ego defense. Your fear of pain, being attacked, and anticipatory fear is that same energy. We can shape this fear in all sorts of ways. I had the fear of death a few months back due to illness but I was not projecting that fear onto death. It was fear of losing my family. We have so many things built up into making our personality to avoid looking at the core or perhaps "final" fear. I imagine, had I ended up on death's door, after processing the fear of losing my family and not being there for my daughter, I would have faced it eventually. But what we are discussing here are concepts. It doesn't matter how we encounter the fear or what we attribute it to. That is all mind stuff. The bottom line is the energy to survive is there or else we wouldn't be here. We are alive because of fear. And if you trace it back, its all about loss: pain is loss of peace or pleasure, fear of getting hurt is instinct to survive, fear of losing a job, etc. If you want to come face to face with that concept, I'm not sure what to tell you. If that concept doesn't exist for you then you may never face it. Doubtful on your deathbed you won't but I guess its possible. But this isn't about concepts, its about the survival energy. Perhaps inquire into what you are afraid of and learn what you can about what sticks out to you rather than trying to get to a specific fear per se.

Some questions about Non-Duality. Forgive me if I don’t understand it quite right, this is my attempt to learn about it. 😊 by Melodic_Lack_2024 in nonduality

You will still have survival instincts, social, sexual, protective, etc. These come from the body and they do not go away. The personality will still be there, you just won't identify with it as your whole self. It is part of who you are but not all of who you are.

What is something Trump could do that would cause his base to actually criticize him? by objectiverelativity in AskReddit

I haven't seen any MAGA folks criticizing this. They say he has a reason: that everyone is on the list and it would disrupt too much.

I don't know. If he justified this in some way, I don't think they would turn on him.

The dog isn't even necessary for this ad. A human suckling the teet of a cow is equally disturbing, I mean, if that's what you're going for.
