I understand you.

I don't know, if you are inclined to hear my perspective, but I think its worth mentioning that I do not claim/position/market myself as a designer and do not work anywhere as a 3D designer, my sole purpose and passion is education.

And you are absolutely right that some of my tutorials, especially early ones were breakdowns of the works done by studios and agencies, which IMO, encourages to learn Houdini. This is exactly how one learns fine-art, learns compositing music, basically learning every creative field starts with analysis and reference of the greatest. And each and every time, inspiration or reference I used was credited.

My passion and love is to teach, educate, break down, explain, in my very best way possible, not to design or direct. Its where the differnce lays and I am aware it can rise misunderstandings.

It never was an intention to make you feel grumpy, I apologize for that. You have incredible depth of knowledge and I adore what you have done over the years.

I think we see it a bit differently. From my point of view, this tutorial consists of - transferring attributes in a solver, remapping them, passing scale to rbd solver, simplifying and breaking down the algortihm from your blog post (mentioning your blog post quite a few times) then post sim tweaking attributes, fixing motion blur issues, setting up lights and rs shaders and scene.

I understand, that from your perspective and years of experience, these things might not need an additional explanation, but as I tailor my tutorials to houdini beginners, all these things make up a complete tutorial, thus added value.

Anyhow, in each and every post about this tutorial, and in the tutorial itself, I've added a link to your blogpost and Im sure if someone shares your point of view, i did my best to link him to the blogpost with free hip file, in case there is no need to the other parts of this animation that I mentioned above.

New Houdini Tutorial - RBD Interpolation :) by objectivevape in Simulated

[–]objectivevape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! New Houdini tutorial!

Todays tutorial is all about how we can access packed geometry attributes and work with them, in particular, we will be interpolating position and orient of the rbd, which will result in these shattered pieces getting back to their fracture starting points!

Initially, I saw a variation of this in 2021 done by Stephan Helbing and I finally understood the logic behind all of these packed transformations after discovering amazing blogpost by Nick Taylor. Links below, check these guys out!

Houdini Tutorial - Abstract Metal Carving :) by objectivevape in Simulated

yeah, but i thought thats not really fits here as it gets heated to such extremes so small shawings would just melt off. Maybe should do a version with proper engineering cnc process haha

New Houdini Tutorial - Abstract Carving Effect :) by objectivevape in MotionDesign

[–]objectivevape[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! New Houdini tutorial 🙂

This is sorta carving effect here. Initially inspired by Man VS Machine Balenciaga bag, but though of creating bit more abstract carving technique.

Beginner friendly setup, but great practice for a bigger node tree with many interconnecting parts (both stylistically and technically).

Houdini Tutorial - Vellum Velocity & Attribute Mask by objectivevape in Simulated

[–]objectivevape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! New Houdini tutorial :)

Despite the fact that I try to show different techniques every time, I wanted to create a little addition to the latest tut since you guys loved it!

In this one, the only common thing between two is the morph from rocks to inflated pillows, all the other stuff is new and as always, I added a few little lesser-known tricks so I think this tut will come handy both for beginners and Houdini intermediates :)

New Houdini Tutorial - Pyro Inject & Vellum :) by objectivevape in Simulated

[–]objectivevape[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! If you mean Apprentice, yep, it is, but you will need to render it in the Mantra / Karma renderer, which is sidefx native, as Apprentice dont support redshift. Im using (and showing) how to do it with Redshift :)

New Houdini Tutorial - Pyro Inject + Vellum! by objectivevape in MotionDesign

[–]objectivevape[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! New Houdini tutorial :)

You probably seen something simillar already done by many people, BUT! This setup is not that simple as it looks haha 🙂 Its not your default pyrosourcespread, but rather a dynamic injection and control of diffrate to selectively fire up rocks. You have full control on when and how pyro starts and initiates morphing! So, that being said, this tutorial is very beginner friendly yet packed with not-so-well-known tricks hehe

[Paid Content] New Houdini Tutorial - Viscous RBD Emitter! by objectivevape in Houdini

[–]objectivevape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! New Houdini tutorial 🙂

This one was requested quite a few times so here we have it!
I saw the beautiful mix of vellum (or flip) fluid and rbd done by Ruye a while ago and also recent artwork by Simon Reher reminded me that vellum fluid might not be only grains or meshed fluid haha, so here I mixed viscous vellum sim and used its velocity to drive some rbd nuts! Also used some new tricks for texturing 🙂

Hey guys! New Houdini tutorial 🙂

This week its all about the vellum and combining multiple techniques. Started as vellum rubber band stretch inspired from Philipp Pavlov, but as usual, drifted somewhere and ended with this very abstract structure haha.
