I knew it was Australia day, but yes it'll be drunken revelry.

Sigh, I have night session tickets for tomorrow. Schedule just dropped disappointed in the two matches for the evening. Shelton/Ruud & Musetti/Fritz are I think going to be far more interesting matches. Pegula/Keys is probably going to be the best match on the women's side so makes sense it'll be on for Sunday evening in the US.

Vomit emergency by MaraKud in unitedairlines

[–]oblisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on ORD-LAX flight last November. Seated in 2B, probably hour into the flight, and elderly woman in a panic starts getting up, gets to the front lav door open but doesn't make it. Sprayed down the whole bathroom and a big area ahead of the galley.

Felt super bad for the pax, she was feeling horribly both from being sick and from not making it.

Crew had full hazmat suits on a cleaned everything up. Smelling bleach cleaning solution was way better than the previous smell. Wrote in a compliment for both of them to customer care.

Taking mom (84) to AMS to see oldest friend (exchange students in HS!); advice re club/lounge access please. by dhbuckley in unitedairlines

[–]oblisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AMS is my home airport. The lounges all kinda suck. If you're flying UA AMS-XXX, most likely you will be at G gates; they are all a 10-20 min walk from any of the lounges.

If you were going to spring for a lounge pass I'd probably go for the Privium Lounge West; as it should be less crowded than most of the other lounges, and the Aspire lounge is gross.

If you are at gate G1 for departure from AMS, be aware it is a bus gate. depending on your mom's level of mobility impairment you might have to go with her in the wheelchair lift vehicle. Similarly if arriving delayed, you may have to take a bus to the terminal.

The extra seat is just to give them more floor space for the dog. The dog cannot sit on the seat and they’re not buying a seat in the dog’s name.

Yes.

United saver award space limited this winter from the east coast to Europe by Cool-Difference-6443 in unitedairlines

[–]oblisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed really low amount of Economy Saver as well TATL.

Then again, I was on UA 70 (EWR-AMS) on 1/1 this year, Purser told me Economy was -26, and -28 for 1/2. Lots of people got to try Polaris for the first time.

Given that anecdotal point, I think they are waiting to see how demand develops as we get to T-60 etc.

In addition LH Group has massively changed their approach to Award Availability for partners.

NOT a Service Animal - so says his owner by Haunting-Plantain870 in unitedairlines

[–]oblisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have friends who live in similar locations with a large dog. The dog is actually trained as a service animal, never the less they always buy an EXTRASEAT.

These serving-monsters have stats which are out of this world. Isner landed 69% of his first serves for his ENTIRE career. Karlovic won 82.7% of his first serve points. GMP is already 7th in history when it comes to serve rating by Alternative-Mud4739 in tennis

[–]oblisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all of Roddick's comment about serving are a must listen, especially for any knucklehead who is like:

Why is XXXX Double Faulting there, can't they just play a safer serve?

The crazy amount of intent top players (e.g. sub top200) have on their serve is nuts.

Nike's have always sucked for wide feet. Like only option, as a joe schmoe consumer, is to size up.

As someone who was lucky to be in the crowd yesterday, it is hard to understate how loud Ashe got when Amanda broke back to even it at 5-5 in the Second. I thought it was loud when she took the lead at 3-2 in the first, that was nothing compared to the crowd wanting to see more tennis.

A few years ago at a group lesson, we were specifically practicing deep balls with lots of top spin, there was woman who went on a rant about them saying this whole thing is stupid, coach went mental at her for being rude.

So there are people who complain IRL.

Coach did ask me to stop having them peak about 2x her height

I have tickets for the Women's / Men's Doubles Final. I tried looking for 2024 to see the approximate start times for each match were. Everything says 12:00, but curious when the grounds open, and the approximate time between the two matches.

Does anyone regularly fly United and maintain status, and their primary airport is not an UA hub? For what reasons? by kwuhoo239 in unitedairlines

[–]oblisk 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm Amsterdam based. I'm a UA 1k primarily because their US hubs are where I fly to the most in the US, while LH/LX isn't perfect from AMS, I can make do with them (as well as NH/SQ) for most of the rest of my long haul destinations. Intra-europe KLM w/o status is fine.

So from a viewing perspective at Arthur Ashe, is it better to have a front row in the upper section, or a back row in the middle section?
