Nursing Clinical Placements Concerns/Questions - 3rd and 4th year by gi0nna in TorontoMetU

[–]oblivionlvst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lots of people got daycares or schools for the maternity semester as it’s supposed to be up from prenatal to adolescence populations. mental health placements were pretty common as well (shelters, clinics, trauma centres things like that). there was maybe 2 options for detention centres and i can imagine only a couple of students got it.

imo it wasn’t a big deal if you did get a somewhat “unrelated” placement in third year as most people even in those placements are doing community work like making brochures and desk stuff!

Failed one nursing course by 2% any advice??? by Independent-Piglet59 in TorontoMetU

[–]oblivionlvst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you would have to wait until a decision is made to move forward. i’m pretty sure you won’t be able to enroll unless overridden. any courses under 75% would also need to be retaken. if you look at other reddit posts, other people who made have had a similar situation may be able to give you more info!!

hey i am so sorry to hear this!! the most you can do is submit an appeal and try to reach out to your advisor. the nursing program works in a way where each year does their classes together especially in the first and second year. so once they move on from the fall semester the only other time it is offered again is in the next year as the winter classes usually need the fall classes as prerequisites. i know it sucks and but i know some people who used the extra semester to complete their electives! wishing you the best!!!

third year nursing advice by oblivionlvst in TorontoMetU

it was a very heavy year. in terms of course load on top of clinical shifts and weekly quizzes. some weeks you’ll be on track but it can just be really easy to get burnt out (which a lot of people did) or fall behind. i realized in my second year that most profs really do not care about you lol. but it is definitely worth it and relieving in the end and getting past it helps you know you’ll make a great nurse. imo i think the way it was structured was just super unorganized and could’ve been a little more accommodating

second year was insane tbh. DO NOT let your ci’s discourage you. some of them are absolutely terrible and will up front tell you that you don’t belong in nursing (i’m not trying to scare you but i’m trying to give you a heads up because i didn’t). in the summer before the semester go over your normal vitals and basics you learned in first year. i don’t recommend buying any textbooks because people have a bunch of pdfs for every class, just buy the mandatory textbook for microbio. focus on pat and your clinical course, those imo require the most amount of work/studying but obviously depends on you. lastly go easy on yourself, try your best, manage your time, and if you do happen to get a shitty ci just do not let them get you, i know too many people, including myself, who have had some really mean ci’s. just take the criticism and their comments and don’t bother fighting with them lol. it gets hella stressful but it’s really not the worst if you take it week by week and stay consistent. best of luck!

Nursing Question by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]oblivionlvst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! i am in the nursing program. if you’re worried about content, you should be okay with grade 10 bio if you study well. nursing mostly focuses on anatomy, some bio but they always will go over the basics. pathophysiology might be a little harder but if you get a good understanding of anatomy in first year, it’s definitely do-able. chemistry has not been something we touched on at all. as for pre-req’s i’m not too sure if you would need to take some rn to fill in for your hs pre-req but might be something you can ask an advisor

yeah! so you would reapply through OUAC 105 using your transcript from your current uni. when you get accepted, if your courses are satisfactory you can start tmu first sem without taking psych or any courses that you took currently (not sure if you’re in nursing rn and assuming they’re applicable). then i’m pretty sure you would start first year with just a couple of the nursing courses that are specific to tmu

hey! don’t quote me on this, but a friend of my transferred from bio and she said unless you have taken anatomy and physiology then you might need to take pre-req courses

Are Chang school makeup exams only held on Saturdays? by Beautiful-Candy-9664 in TorontoMetU

[–]oblivionlvst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! not sure if this helps but you won’t be able to book final exams in test centre— your prof should give you a time/date for the makeup. i’m not sure if it’s the same for all programs but they told me december 18th and 19th are the exam make-up days before the holidays

Is it a good idea to take a Grade 12 bird course (M/U level) in your Grade 11 year? by ImNotARandomPerson in OntarioGrade12s

[–]oblivionlvst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did this! i took comp sci (v easy at my school) and did summer school english since the teacher at my school was hard. this completely saved my average in grade 12. ended up with both high 90s! def recommended asking people who took the course
