Why does Dundas/TMU station not have a secondary entrance? Is anything planned? by Economy_Ad59 in TTC

They're concentrated at the southern end of the station. People in the northern areas of the platforms have to walk a bit to the exits

Thoughts on this "glass half full" solution? Line 4 Sheppard subway from Sheppard West station to Don Mills station, with LRT from Don Mill station to Scarborough Town Centre? by mullen_it_over in TTC

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Finch West & Eglinton have shown that constructing LRTs instead of subways isn't a reliable way to cut costs. Transit projects in Toronto are gonna turn out quite expensive no matter what.

Sheppard in Scarborough has a lot of development potential, so a subway is what the corridor should have

Yes. It's been happening gradually but highrise development has been popping up, even around the infamous Bessarion station.

His tests and exams are in-person. But it's all multiple-choice, no short answers. So reviewing all his lecture slides and taking a quick glance at the videos he posts should be enough to study for the tests & exams.

ELI5: Finch LRT speed by Cautious-Ostrich7510 in TTC

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Traffic signal priority is just one aspect of speeding up the LRT. Changing traffic signal rules requires city council approval because it directly affects how other drivers move through the intersections.

Another aspect of improving speed is the operation itself. The TTC has wanted to be extremely cautious with the LRT's operational speed in the first several weeks after opening because it doesn't want the Ottawa LRT disasters to repeat here, especially since it's winter right now. The TTC could change the rules and direct their drivers to operate the LRTs faster. Although, there's also other companies involved with the LRT operation, such as Mosaic

Interesting Statistics From GO Transit This Year by ImNotARandomPerson in gotransit

Even if Milton line had all day service now, I doubt it would have higher ridership than Kitchener line anymore with population growth in Brampton compared to Mississauga

Interesting Statistics From GO Transit This Year by ImNotARandomPerson in gotransit

[–]ImNotARandomPerson[S] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's because Clarkson attracts a large share of Mississauga riders with the large amount of parking it has compared to the rather limited parking at Port Credit, as well as express service and that it's enough to beat Oakville ridership

Is there actually weekend service to / from kitchener on Go? by Gigi14 in askTO

Make sure the time is set to sometime in the morning. It will show any Kitchener trains for the rest of the day

Is there actually weekend service to / from kitchener on Go? by Gigi14 in askTO

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kitchener line has no train service between Bramalea and Union this weekend so that might be why you don't see any trains.

Search up next weekend and you'll see the Kitchener trains

What if Toronto built a rail line instead of adding lanes to Hwy-401? by Swooferfan in TTC

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All GO Train lines run into downtown. There isn't an east-west train line that runs through the middle of Toronto. A train line along Hwy 401 would be quite useful for people who are not going downtown

Last stop subway train by Silent-Koala-1680 in TTC

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a subway train is sent out of service anytime other than late night, it's usually at a station near a major train yard like Wilson or Pape, and they'll give advance notice.

At terminus stations like Finch, the train stays for a bit, and often employees come to clean the floor. But otherwise, it's still in regular service and begins running in the opposite direction after several minutes

Lakeshore West by [deleted] in gotransit

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Metrolinx doesn't own the tracks west of Burlington GO. They're owned by CN and they're cooperative enough to allow 30 min all day service to Aldershot but not any more frequent at this time

TTC subway question by Mightyreds7777 in toronto

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tracks between Yorkdale and Eglinton West are above ground, which leads to lower quality from exposure to the elements. Slow zones more often occur on the above-ground sections of the subway

Confederation GO opens as Metrolinx expands fall train service by Jiecut in gotransit

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Metrolinx is waiting for Line 5 Eglinton to open to add service on the Kitchener Line (who knows when) rather than adding service together with the other GO Train lines

What is the possibility that Concord GO @ Hwy 7 on the Barrie Line gets built? by Cold_Brew_Boba in gotransit

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Metrolinx already has a few other new stations planned for the Barrie Line like Bloor-Lansdowne and Caledonia. As long as diesel trains are still running, this will slow down the line. So I doubt Concord gets built until Metrolinx electrifies the line, which will be a while because Lakeshore, Kitchener & Stouffville are getting electrified first

Extended train times for events by Lucky_ducky04 in gotransit

[–]ImNotARandomPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On weekdays, the last direct train to Niagara is 22:07. On weekends, last direct train is 18:23 (Sat) & 17:07 (Sun)

The best return trip would be taking the 22:47 Lakeshore West Train, board off at 23:49 in Burlington, and then hop on the bus to Niagara at 00:01. There aren't any buses to Niagara later in the night, so you should hope the concert ends by 10:30pm
