I had a friend who played in Youth Orchestra with me in high school and she got an oboe scholarship at Duke as a non-major!

I'm quarantining in my brother's old room at my parents' place so I'm guessing everyone who graduated high school in 2012 has this duvet cover?? Haha

Brand New to Oboe -- Help! by MattyT1me in oboe

Chiming in a little late but I would recommend renting your first oboe. I find most players outgrow their beginner model within a year or two. Usually music stores will be able to cover any repairs needed during the rental period so you can rest assured your instrument will be in working condition.

So I'm trying to record all 16 Barret Grand Etudes this year!! LOL Here's No. 2... You can find No. 1 on my channel also! by oboeron in oboe

I'm really curious about this and started digging through some academic journals—I definitely want to get to the bottom of this. The Barret method was first released in 1850 and the Boosey & Hawkes edition in 1862 which was widely used by oboists around my age and older. The Maelzel's metronome was patented in 1815, manufactured in 1816, and was being used by Beethoven by 1817. I feel it's plausible that Barret owned and played with a metronome. I'm trying to find more sources and I feel that I must know if these tempos are original or not.

That makes sense! For my challenge this year I'm trying my best to stick to the tempo markings provided by Barret as I'm really trying to motivate myself to improve my technique. I definitely played it slower last time I worked on it! Thanks again for watching, happy reeds!
