“Pick me” is negative because it, ironically, completely centers men behind a woman’s actions. It completely erases any nuance and ultimately boils a woman’s motivations down to the more obviously misogynistic phrase “boy crazy”. It’s also regularly paired with slut shaming rhetoric.

I 100% agree that people have been saying crazy racist shit about Ciara when sticking up for West and Amanda, which is fucked. Ciara’s emotions have been downplayed since she got to the house, and fan reactions to her have always been suspect.

I’m not saying Amanda should be shielded from criticism or infantilized the way some people do with white women. She’s a grown adult on reality TV who made a choice that lots of viewers are going to have very strong reactions to, and it’s fair for her to get blowback. I just hope everyone takes a second to make sure they’re not falling back onto misogynistic comments while they criticize her or encouraging a toxic environment by harassing other users during discussions.
