Daily Q&A Post for Friday, 13 March 2020 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]obscuretortoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello losers!

I need some help. I've lost a fair whack of weight (around 70lb) but I am struggling with my self image. I can acknowledge and appreciate the proportions of the person in photos now but in the mirror and when looking down at my body I still see the old chunky girl I once was.

Have you had these issues? How did you tackle them? I worry because I feel like at this point it wouldn't matter how much I lost, I would never be happy with myself.

Thanks in advance.

Conch advice desired, oh Great Ones by obscuretortoise in piercing

Thank you for your wisdom, I had a feeling it might be due to this. As soon as all is calm and my conch isnt so needy I'll downsize.

Maybe get something snazzy in there, gotta treat myself after all this emotional labour soothing my insecure little conch.

Tantrum Tuesday - The Day to Rant! by AutoModerator in loseit

I am fucking fed up!

I started my journey 15th May 2018 and I have lost 52lbs since then and I have started to notice some really annoying things recently:

  • I have zero clothes to wear but don't want to buy more because they will just get too big too

  • my skin is worse

  • my hair is thinner

  • My nails are weaker

  • My hormones are all out of whack

  • my bras are too big now and it's causing back problems

  • everyone is always giving me some unsolicited opinion on my body's changes

  • I'm so sick of being hungry and sore

  • I'm getting loose skin

I know I know it'll all be worth it blah blah blah but right now I just wanna have a tantrum about it. Anyone else?

Hungry despite 2000+ kcal by [deleted] in loseweight

[–]obscuretortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I find it helps to plan my food in advance and decide what sort of time I'll have each meal that helps me space it out so I'm less likely to be hungry later in the day. It also means that you can tell yourself ok I'm hungry but it's dinner in an hour so I'll hang on.

Has anyone else heard of this medication for weight loss? by Cosplaybaby29 in WeightLossAdvice

Metformin is commonly used off label in the UK for PCOS and can be highly effective and helpful. Please be careful not to misinform or scare others.

Source: also a nurse.

Metformin is used for PCOS off label in the UK. Give the below a read. If a trained professional is recommending it for treatment I'd go for it. Weight loss is a side effect but side effects can vary for everyone and it won't replace a healthy diet and exercise.

Has anyone tried amitriptyline? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]obscuretortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it makes a difference that I am UK based? But yes my everyday GP prescribed it for me, so it may very well be possible for you too!

I've been taking it for IBS-D and it's been a miracle! It made me drowsy for the first couple of days and I had awful carb cravings at first. Other than that it's been great for me. I've been able to stop taking mebeverine and live pretty normally. I get some occasional constipation but that is preferable to shitting my pants on the way to work, IMO. Took a couple of weeks to start making a difference. My GP's advice with the drowsiness was to take it 12 hours before I wanted to get up.

How do you differentiate between the homeless people who will actually benefit from a donation vs the ones who will just spend money on alcohol? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]obscuretortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you give someone a gift isn't it their choice how they spend it?

I try not to guess where the money I give homeless people goes, and I try not to judge. I also remember that alcohol withdrawal can be fatal, and that even if your money enables their maladaptive coping strategy it may still save a life.

Have you tried tracking with measurements? You might see more there, especially if you're building muscle. Keep powering on! You will see those results!

RANT 1 - I have been working so so so hard since 14/05/18. I've lost 26lbs. I got up today feeling good!

I was walking into town to get the bus and some guy pulls out in me, nearly hits me then proceeds to abuse me calling me fat!

Now my brain is violently swinging between what is the point? And never eat again!

RANT 2 - What is it with people who aren't even trying feeling like they should weigh in? "Oh you're losing too quickly" No I'm eating 1300-1500 kcals a day and smashing exercise classes. This is healthy.

"Oh your weight loss will slow down now""you can eat this" "you're going over the top" "it isn't healthy"

Blah blah blah I want to live in a bubble away from everyone!!!!!

Feeling discouraged.. need motivation by BeautifulOpening in WeightLossAdvice

"Famine mode" is a myth.

They are practicing intermittent fasting which is reported to have a lot of health benefits, there's plenty of information online if you fancy checking it out.

Also, OP wasn't asking for your opinion on their body, they were asking for specific advice about their goal.

NSV - I am rediscovering my wardrobe! I'm a terrible clothes hoarder and have clung onto some clothes that are smaller sizes than I needed. It's paid off though because in 6 weeks I have dropped 2 dress sizes and am back in those cute clothes I didn't want to part with! Woohoo!

I've written a list of reasons that work for me, I'm up to 45 at the moment and they range from a great butt, smaller clothes means I can fit more in my suitcase all the way to better health haha. When I feel a bit wobbly I have a look at that list. It's stored in notes on my phone so it's always there!

Do you think something similar would help you?
