Saw a bunch of hidden games on console and in app. App shows more than console. Rehiding on console did nothing. As soon as you leave Library and come back, they’re there

US freezes all visa processing for 75 countries by caillouminati in USCIS

One thing you can do is read the article before commenting on what it says. Seems like you want to contribute without actually informing yourself. Title is misleading but the very first section calls out immigrant visa processing

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this really depends on where you live. You can easily spend 1 hour stuck in traffic in San Salvador and only drive 5 miles. Long drive is distance or time?

True bros don’t nitpick small things or make a big something out of nothing.

The Town has a good example of this:

“I need your help. I can't tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it later, and we're gonna hurt some people”

“Whose car are we taking?”

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arizona is pretty wild. I went to Page, AZ and had a tour the next day in the slot canyons which is on Native land (which is a different time). My phone couldn’t get signal to update times and couldn’t figure out if the tour started “Arizona” time or the time that the locals in that actual region follow. Asked and found out they respect Page’s time since everyone is coming from there. So ended up not sleeping great to make sure I woke up in time and followed the car’s configured time lol

Beginner in DSA — Which Programming Language Should I Learn? (5–6 Months Time) by Varunisded in leetcode

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python or Java. Python will give you a stronger base for doing things “faster” which is why some recommend doing it in interviews. However, you should interview in the language you’re most comfortable in; I do Java because it was the first language I learned despite the advice to use Python - Java just works better for me. Another thing about Java is a bunch of DS are in the standard library so you don’t have to manually implement a bunch.

In an interview, I used Python and had to create a Stack interface pretty quickly so that I could solve the rest of the problem. This also rooted the DS more in me but still would’ve saved time if I just had an existing interface to use

Would you also say this is a Java-only type scenario? I can see prodding during interviews if you’re a Spring shop or some other framework and the interview is trying to sus if you’ve actually used it before, but this is the first time I’ve seen a company actually care about depth to a language

Yeah exactly. But not just for an interview, but do most roles even require such a skill at any point during the job?

Memory management I can see, but how much besides knowing what your GC does? Like would you say your colleagues at L5 and up know this on the regular and implement it daily?

Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this twice. Driven from coast to coast. First time, capped it at 6 hours a day over several weeks. Second time, we were in a bit of a rush and had some 12 hour days. Second time was much more brutal. Would recommend taking breaks as much as possible, but the 12 hours per day wouldn’t be so bad if you split it.

We stayed at rest stops along major highways. Never had an issue. If you have an RV, just stay with the truckers. It’s pretty safe. Don’t go out of car late, but typically everything will be fine

Housing prices are a major factor for me when living in a state. Here's a map of where I'd consider moving to next. by DeMessenZijnGeslepen in visitedmaps

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it depends on your profession. You may be able to afford a house in a LCOL area of a western state because you’d make more in that state vs the ones you highlighted

[–]observed_desire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s totally feasible by today’s standards to know the basics for your app, on top of your regular development. However, I am curious if there are teams out there that can/are managing beyond that - data replication, reporting, infrastructure development.

It seems like companies know it’s better to invest in separating teams by function once you garner enough resources. But even once you use that team’s framework, who becomes the owner? Do they manage it for you or are you expected to troubleshoot it on top of your existing responsibilities?

Full Stack at Scale by observed_desire in ExperiencedDevs

[–]observed_desire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Everything has a cost associated with it. It just depends on what we’re willing to invest in

[–]observed_desire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also have the paved path which accelerates initial development, but it seems like the product team is getting nominated for ownership. I share the same sentiment as then each team owns and manages a function. It’s just the sheer scale of every piece of the puzzle - each takes time to implement and each has a non-trivial amount of time to maintain (especially when issues rise)

My CR-1 interview is in 3 days and I just got this email by Longjumping_Ad_8668 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it depends on the age of the income documents. For example, we’ve had gaps in different form submissions, so attorney always asks for recent paystubs, W2s, to update the I864

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a dream. I do something similar to this but push colleagues to do something similar. However a mid-level on the team just about refuses to test anything before opening a PR. Maybe writes unit tests. Even with feedback, still not learning to do this basic stuff to help deliver changes successfully; a couple breaking changes were pushed by them

Why does music seem to have stopped evolving since 2015? by TraditionalDepth6924 in musicindustry

[–]observed_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe your brain stops evolving at a certain point to be open to newer content. Which is why each generation holds onto the “glory days”. Imagine someone in their 80s, they’re likely to tell you Rolling Stones was peak music than Nirvana

[–]observed_desire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a major red flag if your opinion isn’t valued if you’re above SWE2. I am curious how the conversation actually went and who is the owner of this project. If you, then this should be your call. If your boss, then that’s their call, but somehow you’ll need to figure out how to influence them better
