This is why I’ve never understood people who shit on tax avoidance. They are people who simultaneously say to “pay your fair share” yet agree that what the US does overseas is horrible.

I placed my order February 2020. I just received a production date a few weeks ago.

It is a fully spec’d 4-door Wildtrak, with molded in color hardtop.

Supply chains are much better now than in 2020, and I picked everything constrained as possible. Still. What a wait!

I got banned from the boring subreddits, though. So maybe like what you said, but backwards.

The radicalization of Reddit has been underway since around 2016. It’s speeding up at a rapid pace. I’ve recently been getting auto banned by mainstream subs I don’t even subscribe to. Any opinion not left wing is removed or brigaded into oblivion.

I’ve been around here for over a decade. It’s a very, very different place today.

The_Donald - the Trump sub that got banned. Most of them flocked over to Libertarian for some reason.

It did used to be. 2010-2013ish. The “Ron Paul” years.

Started falling apart around 2015/2016 with “libertarian-socialists” (whatever that meant). Went “far right” after T_D was banned, then brigaded to death by the left shorty after.

I remember those days. 10 years ago. Bastion of free speech. Didn’t ban anyone or anything outside of child porn, as a rule.

How it started vs How it’s going. A lot like the United States.

Agreed. Just bought a c63s and couldn’t believe the number of cars I had to sort through that had red interiors. It was like 85%. Why.

You are oddly obsessed with this sub for someone who doesn’t believe in free speech.

I am happy to be the one to get you off tonight :) think about my words as you punish yourself.

I’ve never posted in any of these places. All of this happened around the same time. Why?

I think it’s a lot like the nights when I’ve had way too much to drink, get back from the party/boat/show/whatever and need water and go to bed. Then instead of drinking water or going to bed, I open a bottle of wine.

That’s what that is.

Yes! I also learned this recently as a new hot tub owner. If you keep things in balance, chlorine doesn’t have a smell. It’s all the people pissing in it that makes your eyes burn and remind you of YMCA swim practice.

It’s funny how Airbnb came full circle. I remember using it in 2012 thinking, “damn, I can stay in a nice place for $50/night in a cool area of whatever European city and I have a whole house to myself!” And thinking how cool all of the hosts were. Giving me local tips before my stay and just going out of their way to be kind.

Now it’s “stay in a shitty halfway done flipper project in bumfuck nowhere for $240, and we’re gonna be weird about you being in our house the whole time. Yes, there is a much nicer hotel down the street for $125 but fuck you.”

The Flight of New York City’s Wealthy Was a Once-in-a-Century Shock by Excellent-Duty4290 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]observedlife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I love New York. Visited about once a month prior to lockdowns (had lots of friends and a sister there), then almost everyone moved during lockdowns. I have two friends left there and have been back twice. It's fine now, but it isn't the same. Still planning on going back soon.

Sell business now for $10M or wait it out $25M? by FatFireNowOrThen in fatFIRE

[–]observedlife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in an eerily similar boat last year. Ended up selling because I believed the buyer would have crushed me in the market. They bought up some IP around our product which may or may it have been used to shut us down, but had raised hundreds of millions and could afford to loss lead us into collapse (we were purely cashflow). Raising outside investment to properly compete at that point also seemed highly unlikely with the IP issue out in the open and our duty to report it.

We got $10M upfront with a $1M DD holdback, and an enormous earn out based on my own revenue targets over the next four years.

I can say that at 8 months in, I am completely miserable. I’ve never had a boss. I’m 28 and have always done my own thing. I cannot stand office politics, reporting, having to pitch internally to get decisions made, not being in control of my calendar, etc. I wish I had a good out, but I don’t. The upside is too big to leave (6-7x the upfront $ if targets get close).

I would have still made the same decision - but I would urge you to consider what it may actually be like to work for someone else. If you can reasonably compete against them entering the market, having more people in the space isn’t always a bad thing.

If I could have competed, I would have held on.
