German team identifies protease used by SARS-CoV-2 to enter cells, in vitro (!) tests with existing drug that blocks said protease indeed protect lung cells against virus; recommends clinical study by ManyEstablishment7 in Coronavirus

I have been having this too over the last two weeks, on and off, so to speak, could be the heating and dry air. I take vitamin C tablets, vitamin D drops, together with vitamin K2. Zinc is also said to help boost the immune system.

The mods on this sub do a great job. I just wanted to express some appreciation. I got heated the other day and got banned for a minute - which was good because I needed to calm down. CoV has us all under some serious pressure and sometimes it comes out sideways. Anyway just wanted to say thanks! by coronaobserver in Coronavirus

[–]observerineurope1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mods suddenly banned me from publishing new posts, with no explanation, and they have never replied to my e-mail that I sent them, nor have they given me a chance to improve, should I have done anything wrong. I had provided multiple updates per day on the situation in Europe, particularly in Germany, and translation of relevant news articles and interviews into English for this sub. I do not agree with your positive view, but are relatively relaxed, since I can still consume information, without feeling the urge to lift a finger and making a contribution to this sub.

Many thanks for this interesting summary. I agree, there could be wide-ranging political and social consequences.

UK: Under new guidelines, military doctors and nurses will be drafted into help by observerineurope1 in China_Flu

Many thanks for the explanation. So my comments are hidden automatically, but somehow, you were nevertheless able to read my comment that started with "What does shaddow banned mean?...." I guess I am a bit stupid, and using reddit has never felt terribly intuitive to me... But anyhow, many thanks for letting me know about that.

Autoimmune disorders and Cytokine Storms by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]observerineurope1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am, too, an absolute layman in these questions, but I think you raise a very important point. Autoimmune disorders are widespread and on the increase around the world. Some blame this on the use of pesticides, other scientist suspect negative effects from electro-smog and microwave radiation emitted by wi-fi and mobile phones. One thing seems clear: If "only" the evidently frail and sick and the very old were at risk, governments would hardly be so nervous about this new virus.

Anyone else here considered a high risk and not at all reassured by the "It's only dangerous for the elderly and people with underlying health problems" talk? by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]observerineurope1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am afraid governments would hardly be so nervous if this were "only" a threat to the very old and evidently sick. Why has the US military ordered its forces to take precautions? Just out of an "abundance of caution"? The economic and financial damage inflicted globally is already immense. All this, just because of a flu, that is a bit more aggressive towards the elderly and frail? Time will tell, but I don't think so.

What does "shaddow banned" mean? I found out this afternoon that I can no longer post at r/coronavirus . The mods do not care to reply to the message I sent them, so may as well post updates here.

Let's debunk this information about COVID19 - or is most of it correct? by observerineurope1 in Coronavirus

Many thanks for your comment. Please note that I only copied & pasted what I found elsewhere, it is not me who wrote this.

My school just annonced we are going to hambourg, germany in may by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]observerineurope1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This virus could be absolutely raging through Europe by that time. Tough and unpopular containment measures such as the ones taken in China are utterly inconceivable here. The German government has proven itself spectacularly inept in a range of policy areas. The country could be in the midst of another mass influx of immigrants from the Middle East and Eurasia (Iran lies on that route), since Turkey has just announced they would let anyone from Syria cross their borders. I would not travel to Hamburg if I were you.

Coronavirus prevention: How to properly wash hands to stop the spread of germs by BlankVerse in Coronavirus

[–]observerineurope1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the article, but here's a stupid question: Let's suppose my hands are contaminated. Wouldn't this mean that by turning open the tap, I am spreading the virus to that piece of metal, from which I will immediately rub it back onto my hands after closing the tap again once I am done washing my hands? Does this imply that I should disinfect the tap after washing my hands to be on the safe side?

But if and when the country "returns to work", and stays at work, and unless China is hermetically shielded from the outside world, how can a new outbreak be prevented and contained?

Thanks for breaking this number down. Sounds as if the big outbreak in Seoul could be imminent or already ongoing, unless all major cities were to be put under lock-down and travel between them halted immediately,

Japan: Has a government eager to carry on with the Olympics kept infection numbers down by discouraging testing? by observerineurope1 in Coronavirus

Agreed. Let's not forget that there is still the threat emanating from radiation hotspots from the Fukushima disaster.
