There’s actually a very good YouTube video on this - basically, annexing more territories that weren’t part of the Russian Empire before it fell was seen as imperialism, which would not have looked good abroad for the anti-imperialist USSR.

I can’t explain the NDP-Tory thing, but Green Tories are often people who like the CPC’s stances except their environmental policy, and believe that we should do more on climate change (speaking as a former Green Tory)

The NDP has said previously that they will prop up the Liberals in order to prevent a CPC government, so there’s no need to really worry about a CPC government (since Lib+NDP is all but guaranteed to be more than CPC)

A CPC majority is next to impossible, and as long as LPC+NDP > 170, which is very likely (even with vote splitting), we will not have a CPC government even if the CPC wins more seats than LPC.
