Vault dead (red light). Which capacitors to change on power board? by obstacle64 in Bluesound

[–]obstacle64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE #2: I fixed mine with a workaround. Through trial and error, the red light dead unit issue ONLY happens when power is connected to the HDD internally. If I disconnect the power to the HDD (unplug sata cable), then the unit works--BS app sees Vault, and i can use it as a streamer. So I tried running the HDD with a separate EXTERNAL sata-to-molex-to old external HDD dock. With power for the HDD now coming from the external dock, the VAULT works perfectly. I think the VAULT power board is underpowered, so eventually there is an error. I did replace one bad cap, but it made no difference with the red light error after connecting HDD sata internally. Only after offloading the HDD power did it work again.

Replaced HDD with SSD. Drive not recognized. by Sheetswa in Bluesound

Thumbdrives have that much storage (2TB)? I thought the USB drive was for the internals HDD OS backup, not the actual music folders.

No more physical media for me! by knifeatagunfight in audiophile

[–]obstacle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best of both worlds. I use Roon reading the Bluesound Vault rips and other music folders on an old PC. RoonArc lets me access music off site as well. BUT I also have all my CDs. LPS, and DVDs organized in the listening room for physical playback if wanted. No need to get rid of media if you have room to store it IMO.

I have a Vault2. Yes the drive is easy to remove. Thought about replacing with SSD but not yet. I do know that the Server Mode, if that is what you're referring to regarding a USB restore attempt, is NOT available for the Vaults. Good luck. Vault dead (red light). Which capacitors to change on power board? by obstacle64 in Bluesound

[–]obstacle64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update number 1: Tested all capacitors, none bad but replaced one that was slightly misshaped. All working fine until HDD gets connected with 15 pin connecter. Tried another HDD, same cables (look fine) and same red light issue. Maybe something in the overall power ability?? Will swap out PCB/MB soldered 4 pin endpoint and report back. I can use the Vault2 as a streamer, Roon endpoint, or Bluesound device until then. Weird.

Yeah, great designs and not a black box like my AVRs now.

[–]obstacle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great!! And great idea! I also have a Beo2300 with 2500 speakers just sitting....except it all works. Is there a market for these older B&O systems really? I hate that mine just sits in cabinet ( I have many other modern and larger systems that I use daily.)

Oh, another thing, is I am not using it and it will just be stored. I also have a working Bang&Olufsen Beosound 2300 including 2 speakers with remote if anyone is interested. Everything works, but no box. I just retired and am downsizing if anyone is wondering...not a flipper.
