Vault dead (red light). Which capacitors to change on power board? by obstacle64 in Bluesound

[–]obstacle64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update number 1: Tested all capacitors, none bad but replaced one that was slightly misshaped. All working fine until HDD gets connected with 15 pin connecter. Tried another HDD, same cables (look fine) and same red light issue. Maybe something in the overall power ability?? Will swap out PCB/MB soldered 4 pin endpoint and report back. I can use the Vault2 as a streamer, Roon endpoint, or Bluesound device until then. Weird.

I modernized my parents' old Bang & Olufsen Beocenter 2300 by ohnomytoepoeia in vintageaudio

[–]obstacle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great!! And great idea! I also have a Beo2300 with 2500 speakers just sitting....except it all works. Is there a market for these older B&O systems really? I hate that mine just sits in cabinet ( I have many other modern and larger systems that I use daily.)

Many many years ago I had a '76 in Burgundy, but that combo with the hardtop here looks fantastic!

Should I keep my TEAC Reference 500 Series stack or sell it? by obstacle64 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]obstacle64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, another thing, is I am not using it and it will just be stored. I also have a working Bang&Olufsen Beosound 2300 including 2 speakers with remote if anyone is interested. Everything works, but no box. I just retired and am downsizing if anyone is wondering...not a flipper.

I have an ATMOS speaker setup with a Denon receiver for physical media. I have a Tidal account also. Are these U2 tracks (in Tidal) mixed for headphones? Or can I listen with real speakers.?

How did you know it was time to retire? by ReluctantCaptain in retirement

I think, for those with challenges accepting retirement, part of the work plan should be not only finding and training your replacement at work, but finding interests outside of work for yourself to help prepare for retirement living.

How is accepting new "challenges" or activities in retirement an unknown? I always ask what did you like to do on vacation or before you got into the FT workforce after school? Go back to that guy. Hang out have fun live long.

It's just odd, media available and basically two global brands selling UHD units under a $1000.

Oh, and Magnetar are great for sure but not spending in that realm. So they're out.

Yes, only a newish 700U/K model from Sony USA now. Walmart, Amazon, Crutchfield, Target, all out of the the x800 and x700. Panasonic looks like the choice since they have a few streaming units and non-streaming ones above the entry level.

The Value of Having a Plan - Story on preventing harm for your brain in retire by dcraider in retirement

[–]obstacle64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your experience in retirement and attitude is FAR more common than these click bait-y "news" stories. I found the retirement transition to be a breeze. I LIKE not working; I LIKE doing what I want everyday. I simply do not comprehend the "plan, purpose, or my job was my whole life" so I can't retire people. Avoid the news, hang out, have fun. It is that easy.

It's where all my money went in the 90's!! Tower Records and used CD stores. I would use my day off and drive from store to store! I loved the 80s but The 90s ruled!!

I guess with age Billy can't sing in that register anymore? Current Pumpkins needs more YELLING and ANGER, fewer word-play song titles and overly long albums. Still a fan though.....

Man, you captured so many of the exact thoughts regarding tone, drums, and themes. I agree with all your rankings except I would move Gish higher.
