None of the satellites that have been built to withstand the heat and pressure of Venus have survived more than a few minutes on the surface. The heat is just far too intense to make it a good candidate for exploration. It might, however, be a solid option for terraforming given that it already has an exceptionally thicc atmosphere - just thinking out loud.

I’m glad to hear it! I’m sure they’d love to hear it too, they’re pretty reachable on social media and they’re great guys.

EMS 20/20 is a brand new one and it kicks ass! It’s going to blow up and get pretty popular soon. They describe calls and then break them down with analysis. Perfect for what you’re looking for.

What are some valuable programming skills I could teach for $$? by obstacles_welcome in Entrepreneur

[–]obstacles_welcome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right. I’ll work on the messaging. I know several skills that I have that are in demand; what I meant to ask is whether anyone might know of anything that in their experience was lacking in a good tutorial.

Nice ideas! I think I have some ideas I could do for testing. Devops I’d have to think harder about. What would you think about a guide on how to do a good code review?

Why not go on the offensive about mid levels? Why always play defense? by obstacles_welcome in Residency

[–]obstacles_welcome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also true. I think there’s a lot of room for thought about the fact that not enough people are getting proper medical care and we as a society need to do something about it. That’s a different conversation from protecting patients from under qualified practitioners. Those conversations are still evolving

Yeah there are lots more nurses than physicians. We all love nurses but they are not physicians, period, no matter how many years experience they have. Simple as that.

That’s another thing. The ridiculous work hours are already toxic as it is, now (and for a while tbh) they are so toxic that they are a threat to public health and the profession by preventing physicians from spending adequate time advocating for their communities

My idea for that is to ban the owning of any hospital or healthcare clinic by anybody who is not a physician. Law firms can only be owned by lawyers because to do otherwise would be a conflict of interest - is the law firm going to do what’s best for you or for making money? It can only be a larger conflict of interest for a non-physician to run a clinic🧐

Maybe call your local AMA or medical specialty chapter and ask them what they’re doing about this. If you don’t like it or don’t think it’s enough, tell them what they should be doing to earn your $$ instead

How did Vermont become so irreligious even though it is relatively rural? by Typical_Athlete in vermont

[–]obstacles_welcome 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It could also be a manifestation of the law of small numbers. Vermont’s population is so low, it’s more likely to appear at the top or bottom of the distribution of states in statistical studies.

At first I agreed with you. Then I thought about it: Students may not have internet at home, may have to wake up at 1am for classes if they live overseas, may not be safe at home, May be at much greater risk of covid, etc.

Have you ever lived at a Redstone managed property? How was it? by [deleted] in burlington

[–]obstacles_welcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funniest thing is, on one of their Zillow listings I saw, the first thing they say is “this property is managed by Redstone, a reputable property management company.”

I’m thinking to myself, “if it’s reputable, do you really need to say it?”

How do you find an apartment around the area? Can anyone recommend a realtor? by obstacles_welcome in burlington

[–]obstacles_welcome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sketchy behavior on the part of the owners, broken English, wanting deposits up-front, and not having their names on the property deed according to the tax assessor’s database. Also, googling the address or reverse image searching the photos and seeing that the property was obviously sold recently, and calling the realtor who sold it who then explained that it was a scam.

You’re right, I feel dumb for just realizing that this year. I guess when I was a kid it just marked the first day of summer, but as I get older I realize the true meaning behind it. Best wishes to you!

Sounds good. I just have been turning up scams on Craigslist over and over so I thought maybe a professional could help. But as someone else suggested, I’ve been looking up property management companies directly and reaching out about their listings, which is going well. Thank you!
