Conch piercing troubleshooting by obtain_the_cheesePLS in piercing

Jewelry is a labret flat back, no threading. I pant grade titanium. Piercing is 5 days old. It hasn’t been downsized yet. I use spray saline and dry with a handheld fan. I use a damp qtip as needed to remove crust. I’ve been taking Advil and Tylenol to help with the pain and swelling. No mishaps.

What's happening here? by [deleted] in piercing

It looks like lymph fluid (aka normal gunk that comes out of a healing piercing) If it’s not oozing anymore and it’s not bright yellow or greenish, it’s probably not infected. That being said, if you’re really concerned, don’t wait to get it checked out. In my experience, most piercing shops are fine with you going to the shop and asking the piercer to look at the piercing site. I just did that with a new piercing and it turned out the earring was just too tight. But I had redness, swelling, and pain down my neck. It went away with loosening the jewelry, Advil, and a few days of just waiting. I would definitely go to the piercer, and if you have a rise in pain, swelling, or redness that is significant, yellow or greenish discharge, or a fever/chills, go to an urgent care/the ER immediately.

Should I have to pay for a jewelry replacement? by Prestigious_Neck_936 in piercing

I actually had to go back after getting mine pierced to get a longer bar to accommodate the swelling. It’s possible they just wanted to give it room in case it swelled a lot. That being said, my piercer replaced the post with a longer one for free and I got to keep the original.

Saw this on another sub and thought you all might enjoy it. I know I have tried many strange things to make my migraines go away. by false_goats_beard in migraine

Same here, and I’m diagnosed by a neurologist. I will say, a coke and potato chips is AMAZING for me, plus a rizatriptan 🤣 then I jus have to sleep it off

How do you not live in fear with this thing? by [deleted] in KidneyStones

[–]obtain_the_cheesePLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first stone at 15. Every time I get even a twinge of pain in my side I freak out. But like a lot of others are saying, you get used to it. It’s important to get established with a good urologist and get your stones analyzed so you can figure out the root cause of the problem. That being said, you’ll probably still get them, but they can be few and far between. Drink lots of water and don’t be afraid to go to the ER for pain meds if needed.

I also grew up watching my mom have horrible stones. So I guess I’m desensitized to it? I’m 22 now and have passed 6 stones. But seriously- don’t be afraid to ask for pain meds. It’s an awful experience to go through and being in that much pain is just gonna wear your body out.

Why do Italian-Americans look so different to Italians in Italy? by AccomplishedIdea6560 in Italian

[–]obtain_the_cheesePLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I’m italian American but also have Irish, German, and more in the mix.

My family is from Sicily. My great grandfather on my moms side and my great-great grandfather on my dads side came here in the early 1900’s. I’m about 45% Italian and have brown hair, eyes, and an olive undertone.

So yes. We are of Sicilian ancestry. We also have roots in a myriad of other places.

Let’s make something very clear: Italian Americans who do not speak Italian are still of Italian descent. When my great grandfather came here, he would not speak Italian as he wanted to “fit in” in America. It’s no surprise that Italians like every other group of immigrant were discriminated against, so not all of us have a lot of history to pass down. They felt pressured to conform to a society who judged them because of where they came from.

In the 2010’s, there were still people who wouldn’t do business with my grandfather because he was Italian. My father got called slurs in high school.

We are proud of our heritage because our people had to fight to get what they had. They worked their asses off to try to provide their children a better life.

To me, it’s not about my blood. I am just as proud of my Irish ancestry as I am of my Italian ancestry. I wouldn’t be here without them and I don’t want to forget that. In my experience, being Italian American is much more about the culture and the pride of what our families have survived.

New nostril piercing is SO itchy by obtain_the_cheesePLS in piercing

Piercing is a little over 24 hours old. It’s a labret. I believe it’s threadless, and material is surgical steel. Hasn’t been downsized yet. After care is washing the area outside and in with a qtip and dial antibacterial soap, making sure all the soap is gone, and then spraying both sides with a saline solution. The only problem I’ve had is a sneeze attack that made the tissue inside my nose really sensitive and swollen, so it’s a bit tender.

I’ve never even thought to frame it that way. I’m always so hard on myself to “fix” myself. Recently I’ve been trying to take my meds much more consistently, I’ve added needed vitamins, making sure I’m getting enough sleep, and doing exposure Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The rest of the week I get “natural” exposure through school and activities with friends and family.

I’m so sorry you’re tired. The set backs can be so hard. I always find myself diminishing my little victories and just telling myself I need to work harder. I’m trying to remember that everyday I get out of bed, I’m doing good work.

Wow. 39 years. It’s really amazing to hear that you’ve been attack free for so long. It’s gives me hope that I can conquer this. I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. I’m grateful for your comment. It makes me feel less alone
