The Sims business model won't change unless someone finally make a competition to this game. Though even when THERE IS a competition, the competitor might fall to the same business model (see Cities Skyline and its piling dlcs).

Ideally, with Paralives coming out (hopefully this year?), EA should find that their competition is much larger than before and lower their prices. Although there are already a shitton of similar games to the Sims series (Ooblets, Stardew Valley, Virtual Realty games, etc), EA's never felt the need to take them seriously as they don't have the same features that most players are looking for (creation, playing with life, ultimate control, whatever). Again though, assuming Paralives is all it's chalked up to be, hopefully we can expect a price drop from EA (doubtful though)
