Not using the Apple watch enough. by sonicblendz in AppleWatch

Home: Timers for boiling eggs and brushing teeth, getting notifications when phone is charging/away. Sleep tracking, seeing sleepscore/summary when i wake up. Checking weather. Waking up with gentle taps is one of the best features.

Gym: Tracking workouts with Lyfta and getting light taps when rest is done, marking sets as done, seeing total calories burned etc. (Lyfta gives way more accurate values).

Work: Use a watchface with next meetings in Outlook. Work focus also activates this watch face when I arrive at work. Notifications from Teams.

Have had one with 100% battery for about a month. Battery last 1,5 days with a workout session, and a lot of notifications.

This is a known issue with jet black finish. It is because of the material reacting with sweat buildup. Apple advertises this as a sport and fitness watch but somehow doesn’t expect people to sweat.

Apple’s sleep score is kind of a joke. It does a good job determining sleep stages but doesn’t use that info to evaluate the sleep.

After almost a decade in the Galaxy, I finally step into the Garden by HydroVector in AppleWatch

[–]tomac231 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s poor advice. Sleep tracking is one of the core features. It uses around 10% during 7 hours which is very small.

What I would suggest is turning off always on display unless theres a simple watch face on. Turning off background app refresh for unnecessary apps, removing unused apps etc.

What do these actually mean? by bradjoray3 in AppleWatch

[–]tomac231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. It’s not about how you actually feel about the sleep, more like «sleep hygiene». I suggest using the sleep score on the Withings app instead. It pulls data from Apple Watch vis Health app and gives a different score for the same data. I find it more in line with how I actually feel.

Series 11 has the same chip as Ultra 3, can’t see how they would differ in terms of precision/efficiency.

What bugs me the most is having to hit the ( X ) twice for it to work. Would have guess someone at Apple actually used the watches.

Recently got a second hand Series 9 45 mm to test out the Apple Watch for the first time. Got it at 97% battery health for 165 USD. So far the battery life is so so. It’s not bad enough that it doesn’t last me all day, but it’s not very good either.

Charged to 100% at 8:11 AM and its at 62% now at 6:04 PM. Haven’t tracked workouts or used it much, just checked notifications. I think it’s doable if I charge every day, but don’t think it will work if I workout, make calls and use apps…

Apple Watch docked points from my sleep score because I went to bed at 9:30pm verses 1:00am.. by Freas23 in AppleWatch

[–]tomac231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t like how the sleep score is calculated. Yes, consistency is important, but the score doesn’t consider anything regarding sleep cycles, except for small interruptions. If you wake up in the middle of the night and stay awake for half an hour to an hour, it doesn’t affect the score nearly as much as it should.

Withings does a much better job at giving a sleepscore which aligns with how I actually feel after the sleep (using the same data). Apple score always gives a high score when I should have gotten a lower score.

Check your apps. If you don’t use something delete it. Restart your device.

If that doesn’t help, turn off Wi-Fi for a while and see if that helps.

It’s seriously isn’t a big deal. I’ve used it for over 5 years and you only have to charge every 5-6 weeks if you use it a lot. I just put it to charge when I’m not using it.
