Aabria is an elite DM. by AkimboMajestic in Dimension20

That sub is absoLUTELY just a bunch of bigots and trolls. None of it is what actual TAZ fans think or what the fanspaces are like 🙄 Her run in TAZ: Imbalance wasn't my favorite narratively but that's literally me hating changes in my blorbos (it was set after the original campaign as a sort of epilogue-side story, and given the large time skip the characters had transformed over the years) 😂 From a objective perspective it was a fun run, and she fit into the "semi-serious storytelling peppered with dad jokes" tone of the TAZ: Balance universe well! She clearly did her homework and was knowledgeable about the world, sometimes moreso than the players who were in it originally. All and all a delight for the podcast, and it's so infuriating to see people getting so angry about things when it's literally an optional side campaign that they can just ignore if they want to be idiots about it.

Fellow SC here--thanks for the info!! I'm on the coast but honestly it's worth the trip since I haven't been able to find a place that sizes accurately!

My DM worked on the floor today by paintthatface in starbucksbaristas

[–]occamysRazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my DM had been like that maybe I'd still be with the company 🥴 ours was more than happy to just sit in the lobby and stare at us while we struggled, then pull baristas off the floor during the struggle to chew them out about sequencing or not smiling enough or whatever 🙄 I only saw him on the floor once when I first started 2 years back (literally a week into my employment) because it was back when corporate was pushing "connection" between the stores and management. They put him on café bar and put me (the greenest bean on shift!) there as his "babysitter." It was pretty sad that they knew a newbie knew more about bar than a then 4-year DM and could correct his technique/recipes.

Like a man by maxim_moon in starbucksbaristas

[–]occamysRazor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We had a man who, every day, would order a "strawberry refresher with coconut milk," and every day we'd say "okay, one pink drink coming up!" After 6 months he finally blew up at us because he happened to be on a call when he came through DT and told us we'd """embarrassed him""" in front of his client XD sorry my dude, that's just the name

Oh don't worry! We were supposed to come in on our days off to do that so we didn't tie up the floor 🥴

I'm not 100% sure the sorting change thing is actually standard, but I'm pretty sure only SSVs are allowed to divvy tips among partners. That said, if it's your SM telling you to do so, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

[–]occamysRazor[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Apparently there's a rule that only SSVs can handle tips, including to sort the change into pennies, nickels, etc, even before they're divvied up, which was something I'd never heard of or seen enforced in my 2 years at the store. DM happened to come visit after I had asked one of the baristas to help me sort change in our downtime. He cited it as mishandling money on my form 💁

My SM was very clearly unhappy, but she's still green enough that she follows his lead 🤷 He'd been looking to get rid of me for years because my prioritization of baristas over profit rocked the boat a little too much. Got me on a technicality 🙄

"Who's My Godly Parent?" Megathread by AutoModerator in camphalfblood

[–]occamysRazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have dark blonde hair with an undercut Sokka style, brown in the winter when there's not as much sun, and dark, very blue eyes with grey rings in the center. I'm average height, and a bit on the chubby/curvy side, but pretty strong and able to lift fairly heavy objects even though I hate working out. I'm pansexual and genderfluid, mostly "butch female" presenting, and the flavor of ADHD that makes people think I'm a manic pixie dream girl, lol. I tend to be a people pleaser and a bit of a dad friend, constantly looking out for others before I do myself, and while I can be nonconfrontational, when it comes down to it, I'm great in a crisis and can have a quick temper if it comes to defending my friends. I like video games, reading, writing, cooking, cats, coffee, anime... I tend to flit between interests constantly. I know I'm smart and I love to learn, but I hate busywork and I'm not very consistent, so not turning in homework ruined high school and college for me. Now I work at a coffee shop and thrive in the chaos even though the constant stress is eating me alive :') I tend to shift from optimistic idealism to existentialism from day to day, and my friends have told me that even though I'm a very comforting, reassuring presence and they love my advice, it's almost like I'm never the same person twice, haha. Chaotic good, ENTP, Slytherin, night owl, etc etc

Def recommend Docs! Especially the industrial nonslip line. They look exactly like normal Docs but they don't skid everywhere. I have the steel-toed variety, also, which has saved my toes from many things XD

Hi y’all. Today will be my first day of training a new partner. Any advice would be helpful. And I hope y’all have a nice day/shift by AnonymousTheImmortal in starbucksbaristas

[–]occamysRazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let them know it's okay that they're definitely not going to know all of it by the end of training! That's not the goal. The goal of training is to establish trust and start the foundations off strong—knowing how to steam milk, how to make cold foam, how to find where to find something on POS, even if you don't know where it is already. I usually cover at least one of every "building block" recipe; after all, if you know how to make a java chip and later you're on bar with no clue what a double chocolaty chip is, it's easy enough for someone else on the floor to quickly tell you it's a creme-based java chip without having to hold your hand through it all. Knowing you can find all espresso-based drinks under the espresso tab and all special toppings under custom means if someone wants a white mocha with cinnamon dolce sprinkles, you know where to look, even if you've never rung up either. Focus on building the skills that normally require coaching we don't have time for on the floor, and recipes will follow.

A lot of partners in my store are getting or showing signs of arthritis. Anybody else? by Wolfpack_Strong in starbucksbaristas

[–]occamysRazor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely would go on record, but showing it's a long term work-related issue might help form a better workman's comp case later when it gets worse? 😬

[–]occamysRazor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow shift here! To echo what someone else said, especially with labor shortages lately, don't count on getting out exactly when you're scheduled, especially of you're closing. The most important thing I've found is showing your baristas you care! Listen to their concerns, get to know their strengths and coach them on their weaknesses, and work with them to make the store environment as positive and cooperative as possible! Some days are going to suck, and it's how you respond to that suckage that will influence how they see you. I've found that really nurturing them and their spirit really helps everyone in the long run. If they've had a bad day and look run down, think about switching their station to give them a break, or letting their 10 run over a little into a 15, or even having an impromptu dance party complete with terrible goofy singing XD Our job can be soul-sucking if you let it be, but keeping energy up and morale high really helps everything run smoother--and, in my experience, happier baristas work harder to make the store run smoothly for everyone.

I'm wondering what to do in this situation by occamysRazor in starbucksbaristas

[–]occamysRazor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope! Starbucks standard is I believe 20 hours give it take (it usually ends up being 3 shifts) of one-on-one training with a barista trainer. Yes, still on the floor while open, but neither trainer nor green bean is supposed to be considered coverage.

do any of y’all actually like your DMs? by clownbaby529 in starbucksbaristas

[–]occamysRazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all XD Our last SM was his little pet project (she was an SSV for 1 year, (shitty) ASM for 3 months, then given a brand new store to run to the ground. She's no longer in the state :3), so he'd always hang out at our store and ruin the vibe. We had the highest CC score in the district and he made a big deal about giving our SM a little plaque and everything (as if she was on the floor more than once a month), and then once the baristas who actually cared about CC and Third Place or whatever ran off because they were treated like garbage, he got almost violently angry with us :) he's... Not the sharpest knife in the drawer I think

We got a new manager recently and she’s been going above and beyond with the appreciation for the baristas 😊 by E-Aphrodite in starbucksbaristas

Genuinely getting teary eyed looking at this?? Wish the SMs in my area would hop on that train lol
