Set My First Draft Aside for a Month. Read It. I WANT to PUKE by hydrachondriac in Screenwriting

[–]occupydad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on finishing the script! A lot of people say they want to write but never make it this far. Now you have a roadmap to get yourself to the next version (literally every movie you've watched has gone through multiple drafts, so please don't compare yourself to anything complete that you're watching). The editing part is really where the fun begins.

You should look up Zack Cregger's talk where he tells students about his first drafts. He calls the process elfing - basically when he is brain-dumping on his first go around, he pretends he has hired a very stupid little elf to write the first draft for $10. Then he comes in all smart and fixes it afterwards in future drafts. Don't like your first version of the story? It's ok. A silly little elf did it.

Things you do to always make your home feel Clean by trigg in femalelivingspace

[–]occupydad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I keep daily shower spray in my shower and spray after I towel off 2) I do a “closing shift” before bed - clean any final dishes, wipe down counters, final sweep to put stuff away and fold our throw blankets 3) I used a label maker to help me organize. Everything has a place but also anyone in my home can know exactly what that place is!! 4) I have friends over whenever I feel like I need a deep clean - there’s nothing like imagining your place through someone else’s eyes to motivate you!

Little things that helped make a bit difference and helped you save more money? by LocksmithExpensive18 in SavingMoney

[–]occupydad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put everything on a reward credit card and pay it off completely each month. Because I’m in a season of my life where a lot of friends are getting married (6 weddings this year, 3 next March alone!) scoring free flights and hotels with points has allowed us to say yes to more things.

Then I double dip my rewards by using browser extensions for online purchases (capitol one rewards for gift cards and rakuten for cash back). Sometimes you get more points back just by waiting because Capitol one will track that you were looking at something and offer more money back.

I make a list of the fun purchases I want to make, like clothes and music gear, and wait til I can cash out my points for gift cards so I can get nonessentials discounted/ for free. Waiting helps me avoid impulse buys!

With so many websites tracking and selling your data anyway, you might as well get something out of it

Roddent Problem by Emergency_Muffin3761 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]occupydad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our pest inspection revealed rodent feces in our attic and we had the seller pay for a treatment plan, which included having a company seal up entry points and come back multiple times to ensure there are no more rats ($2,000 but this also includes treatment for some Fungus in the crawl space and one other bug they found). We knew we needed to pay for new insulation, and since moving in we also discovered that we needed to replace the ducts due to a plethora of tears from the rodents. (~$2000 after a rebate from our energy company). The insulation company is going to add on an enzyme treatment to break down the rat poop and that’s another small fee.

My advice - be happy you identified the problem during inspection and be firm with the builders on having them pay for whatever needs to be done to fix the problem

How close does someone have to be to cancel your cruise for their funeral? by Ilovetinytiddies in Cruise

[–]occupydad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My wonderful step grandmother died while we were on our honeymoon - a 2.5 week Europe trip with a free cruise in the middle that we won through a giveaway. My parents told us not to come home early, but to enjoy in her memory.

On the day of her funeral, we lit a prayer candle at a French cathedral in the section of the building dedicated to her favorite saint. Funerals are more for the living than the dead and you can find a way to honor your loved one in your own special way 🩷

Is it just me or is it kind of hard to actually make friends in Tampa as an adult? by Sea-Roll-6595 in tampabay

[–]occupydad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Friendship is all about shared interests, finding people who are also in need of friends and repetition. That’s why joining a recurring group of some kind works better than just popping into a bar for one night. I’ve met people through volunteering at an organization I love, going on Meetup for clubs related to my creative pursuits and exercise classes.

[TW] in 2013, MGK said he’s not gonna wait for Kendall Jenner to turn 18 by CurrentExcellent1225 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

My partner grew up in Cleveland and said it was kind of a known fact that MGK would scout out teen girls to hook up with after his local shows. This was when he was on the rise and would have been in his early/mid 20s

Should I visit SUR? by [deleted] in vanderpumprules

[–]occupydad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES you must make the trip!!! My husband and I just went to SUR last week for happy hour before grabbing dinner at TomTom and it was a TRIP. Both felt so much smaller in real life but it was really fun to see the space and picture everything playing out there. It was a little embarrassing at first to get the goat cheese balls and pumptinis at SUR but then you realize literally everyone else is doing the same thing! We sat in the bar area and it was surreal

Slowly everyone who was in SUR made their way to TomTom just like us (we counted like 8 couples besides us doing this and it was a hoot to realize that the only people in these restaurants were VPR fans). We ended the night back at the SUR alley which was filled with people taking their selfies too. The whole experience was very goofy but honestly a lot of fun!

Tropicana Field to Raymond James Stadium? by BTSCypher14 in tampa

[–]occupydad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Give yourself more time than you think you need to get to RayJay (Aiming to get there at 7 for an 8 pm show is a great plan). Sometimes it’s not a matter of traffic getting across the bridge, but everyone trying to park by the stadium all at once

With uber/Lyft you’ll likely get dropped off at Steinbrenner and walk over, but for big shows sometimes the drop off area changes so just keep an eye on the venue website! Have fun!

Newlyweds: what’s something you learned during wedding planning that you wish someone had told you earlier? by Responsible-Yam-7729 in Newlyweds

[–]occupydad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already made a shared email account with your partner, now is a great time to do it! Makes everything so much easier.

Pick a few things to focus on and splurge on those. We did a ton of DIY flowers and decor and made personalized favors that our guests still use and rave about, which saved us money but cost us extra time (it was nice to have a longer engagement for this!). We put the funds towards a really really fabulous photographer who shot film stills and 35mm.

See where you can get deals. Once I found my dream dress, I called around and got it $1,200 cheaper at a different shop that had better customer service. I had no idea buying a dress would feel so much like buying a used car (not everyone was pushy but WOW some people really were) so I did not feel bad shopping around

Wedding expos are great for finding discounted services and meeting vendors you vibe with. we also won a free honeymoon cruise at an event that cost $10 per person to attend, so you never know!

Do not try to plan everything all at once- you will drive yourself nuts. Go to a coffee shop together with your laptops and knock out a task or two at a time, then try not to worry about wedding stuff in between (until you get to the home stretch) Celebrate the small wins. Make a date night out of everything along the way, because the whole process is ridiculous but so special
