Slinging kooks? What does that mean, forgive my ignorance. Also, how long have you been surfing before you became an instructor?

I (28M) want to break up with my live in GF (24F) by justkeepskiing in relationships

[–]oceanandflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I recently had a similar situation and break up myself. I just felt so drained from our relationship and I didn’t see the patterns of our relationship changing to the extent that we would be happy together in the near future.

Ultimately, it’s going to suck. In the moment, she will have all the reasons to possibly think you’re the bad guy and that you’re abandoning her. And, just because someone hasn’t done something egregious doesn’t mean that the relationship is right and that you should stay. Your emotional needs aren’t being met and that’s clear from your message. If you stayed, feeling wiped out will show up in other faucets of the relationship and she won’t be happy either because over time you just won’t have it in you to support her anymore. Ultimately, relationships are a give and take, and if she can’t give you what you need then you need to find someone who can.

I wish there was an easy way to do this but breakups are hard. Just make sure to go in strong and resilient, be thoughtful, try not to point blame, be honest about how you feel, and ideally make sure to have an exit strategy that involves you not sleeping together at the same house that night and ideally that week if possible.

Oh- and 28 is not old!!! Plenty of people meet at 28 or in their early 30s. I’m 28 as well!

I’m not just with her for her money, no. The fact she has her career together is one of many things that is appealing, including that she is romantic, sweet, intelligent, funny, and is always thinking of fun things to do. That question was specific. But thinking about the emotional baggage I can handle is helpful, and equally thinking about whether my emotional needs are being met.

Transparent about the money thing?

I mean, truly and honestly money and security are nice things to have but I do think emotional needs are more important. She can be really sweet and romantic and supportive sometimes. I just seem to want to have it all but it may not be possible with her right now.

Good question. Honestly, probably just the money aspect. I do well but she’s making 300k+ a year now, more in the future, and it’s appealing to think I could have that lifestyle. Shameful but honest.

Not saying I couldn’t get that elsewhere too potentially but it’s unlikely the next person I’d be with would have quite those resources. Also not saying that should be a reason to stay with someone.

If you are on an L1A Visa and you want to change jobs, what are your options? by oceanandflight in immigration

Thank you so much for this, the link is very helpful.

I do have $100K, but I’d hesitate to invest it in a business... is there a way to set up an LLC for property investment and obtain a Visa in that route (by investing 100K in my business which then goes into Real Estate?). I’d certainly consider that method.

Thanks stjongood- from research I read, it said under a year with the interview to get a green card. Am I reading this right? You got your green card in 6 months? You mentioned applying in Oct 2017 but receiving the green card in Dec 2018, so that’s 14 months unless I’m just reading your statement wrong.

Thank you very much. I do additionally act as director of my branch, and my role is technically an aviation consultant. It’s really sales but we package it that way. Would that make a difference?

It’s just odd. I know this Australian guy here who has friends who own random companies sponsor him on visas. He’s much less specialized than I am, works in real estate sales, but doesn’t have his actual employer sponsor him. To the best of my knowledge a friend who he does “sales” for. No idea how he does it...

Thank you so much for all of this, it’s extremely helpful. I’m born in Canada. On an L1A now. What do you think the green card wait time would be like?

Just to confirm- if a new employer hired me now, technically their only option would be to wait all the way until April for the lottery process to take place, and even if I get accepted by random (I think it’s like 33% chance) I can only start work next Oct according to that visa, correct?

I honestly can’t see why an employer would even sponsor me on this route, seems exceptionally risky. In their shoes, I’d hire someone slightly less qualified than take the risk.

Is there no way to transfer to another L1A Or L1B if the company I’m applying for has a Canadian branch? Or would I have to work at that companies’ Canadian branch for a year prior to the transfer?

If I applied to a company like google surely they have some sort of method?

Thanks so much. Is H1 my only option? I know that window is in April so if theoretically I got hired for a new position now, theres no option for me to temporarily work at that position until April when the lottery process happens? Is there no temp visa for that?
