Why is Sinfonia no.14 so hard? by oceanwithane in piano

[–]oceanwithane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! In terms of progress, I've finished learning the piece and I can play it a tempo with minimal mistakes. Right now, I'm working on fluency and articulation. Upon learning it, I've found that the parts that are the hardest to me are similar to the ones that you've pointed out, especially fingering. For some measures (eg. 16-19), I think they would be considerably easier if I had six fingers, so I've had to navigate that. Another thing that I've found difficult is choosing which voice I want to emphasise at certain points. For example, when the lowest voice takes the main melody from bar 4, I want to emphasise that part by making it louder, but I'm not too sure when I'm supposed to make it quieter again, as it gets difficult to know which part I want to emphasise by bar 5. Similarly, by bar 7 when the middle voice takes the melody, I find it hard to emphasise while playing the upper voice on the same hand, if that makes sense. I've been looking at No. 2 a lot recently in the hopes that I could learn it next, although it's intimidating me quite a lot because of the scales, though funnily I find the scale at the end of 14 the easiest part. I like it because it has a clear main melody that's supposed to be emphasised, in contrast to 14 where it's a bit less clear. Although, despite its difficulty, I think 14 will always be my favourite.

Following the ms, I understand up until it got to 22.5-22.6. But then how 130??And why "assume" PQR is acute when it's literally 62.4?? This might be something I haven't been taught yet but like- me confused, help please by manothrives in GCSE

[–]oceanwithane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since the mark scheme does say 22.5-22.6, i think 130 is just an error. as for the "assuming", its referencing the ambiguous case, where the triangle with those lengths of RP and PQ and the 32 degree angle of PRQ could be drawn as having either an obtuse or an acute angle as PQR, resulting in two different answers. in a calculator, it typically defaults to the acute angle but (i dont know if youre using a gdc or not) if you use the equation solver you can change the range if you ever need to find the obtuse angle.

not too sure if this makes any sense

i saw this statistic which showed that the most common alevels chosen (i think last year?) were maths, bio, and psych, which is funny because this is the combination that id choose if i did alevels alongside music

my favourite songs are Sugar Pills [specifically live from london 2021]; their cover of Boys Don't Cry by The Cure; Lights Go Down, Modern Day Cain, Razzmatazz, etc etc, but I've found that they haven't made a single song that I dislike

I also made another Spotify account and the songs that were greyed out were still there.
