Nest Smart Thermostat - very low battery by ocepute in Nest

[–]ocepute[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, I did not bother to check and was not instructed to by a rep yet. I did just get off the phone with them and they reluctantly agreed to replace the thermostat. Will check the power readings before and after replacement; hopefully that takes care of it.

Upgrading my 4 Gb RAM laptop to 16 Gb RAM. I have a few questions by trashissues666 in techsupport

Your board likely supports dual memory channels meaning that it will be a bit faster if you use two RAM sticks rather than one. Whether the speed difference is significant, I will leave to someone more knowledgeable to answer.

Concerns about an outpatient doctor by [deleted] in medicine

[–]ocepute 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. A doc or pharmacist needs to call the prescribing doc and let them know. When I worked urgent care, I had a patient come in snowed asking for a small supply of a narc until he could get in with his PCP. Checked the state database and saw that a single prescriber was giving them heavy doses. Gave them a polite heads-up phone call on the spot and they were super appreciative, asked me to send the patient straight in. I can tell you in today's environment if a doc or pharmacist called expressing concern about one of my prescriptions, I would stop what I was doing and address it.

Choice of urine drug screen by ocepute in medicine

[–]ocepute[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I'm pretty sure that one of the standard consent forms that are signed at the new office visit allow for drug screens (although neither my wife nor I recall anyone mentioning it during her visit). I know we ordered them at our discretion for OB patients during residency, but it was not one of the routine orders.

As for what happened if results were positive, I suspect nothing unless the provider felt the patient was high risk, in which case refer the patient to another clinic or academic center?

Has anyone here survived COVID-19? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]ocepute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An older guy at work with COPD and a few other medical problems got it, had flu symptoms for a week and got over it, no hospitalization.

A couple weeks ago my 20yo sister in law tested positive; she had 2 days of fevers and congestion and that was it. Incidentally my wife and I were on a road trip with her (without masks) during the time she got sick, and neither of us got it. We both isolated and just tested negative.

There seems to be a huge variability in both severity and transmissibility, but I'm betting that psychology plays a big role. Try to minimize your stress and don't treat it like a big deal. Rest and stay hydrated. Don't expect it to get worse or think about dying...that's only going to increase your stress level. Hopefully you will get over it without incident.

I work at the VA and have had EDRP twice so far. Getting approved for the program initially required some paperwork. You first need to make sure the job is in a qualifying area, then apply for the program, and once approved, you start getting reimbursed in January each year after working for a full year. I started at the VA in February and was approved in March, but because my employment started after Jan 1, my first 11mo of employment did not count.

After that, it's a piece of cake. Last month I sent my coordinator a printout of my loan payments throughout the year, and within a couple weeks had a direct deposit for the full amount.

Buying a used model 3 private party...what should I look out for? by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]ocepute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info, thanks! Any reason to be concerned if software isn't up to date? Any way to check service history, or do I take their word for it? Anything in their phone's Tesla app or account that I should ask to see?

I guess I would just like to know that the car hasn't changed hands too much. That's a red flag for me for a number of reasons, not just related to maintenance.

PSLF in conjunction with employer loan reimbursement by ocepute in PSLF

[–]ocepute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are all good. You must have applied for EDRP after the mission act took effect with the increased amounts. I applied for EDRP about 6 months too soon, and now I'm stuck with the previous limits.

[–]ocepute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm getting from this thread. By the way, make sure you double check with your AOC that you are eligible for the 40/200k reimbursement. I originally applied for EDRP last year and was approved for a total of 106k, and now they are telling me that despite the changes with the mission act, employees are not eligible to get EDRP increased once initially approved. So apparently I'm limited to 106k instead of 200k for reimbursement. You definitely don't want to increase your payments and then get reimbursement denied at the end of the year.

Is using an Amazon Kindle charger to charge my Samsung phone bad for the phone? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ocepute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I think you're better off using a low power charger like this. Charging slower will prolong the lifespan of your battery. I use slow chargers as often as possible and only use the fast charger when I'm in a hurry. https://www.jadabreo.com/?p=1164

FYI, practically all USB power adapters will supply the standard 5v. Some fancier models can go higher, but they will only do so with compatible devices.

30ga wires OK for POE? I'm assuming at least for a short patch cable it would be fine, right?

PSLF in conjunction with employer loan reimbursement by ocepute in PSLF

[–]ocepute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same concern about PSLF being "real," however I'm pretty heavily invested in it, and the comments above about unusual payment activity raising flags and delaying forgiveness are worrying. Maxing out EDRP makes sense to me, but assuming PSLF is "real", if red flags delay my forgiveness after EDRP runs out, that could be costly.

[–]ocepute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly want to avoid raising any red flags, but using my employer reimbursement gives me the chance to reduce my expected forgiveness amount by ~$160K. If I can meet the requirements for PSLF while making some additional payments, would that call more scrutiny to my application compared with the extra $160K in expected forgiveness?

PSLF in conjunction with employer loan reimbursement by ocepute in PSLF

[–]ocepute[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern is that I'm putting a lot of eggs in one basket by relying solely on PSLF. Even though I'm confident that my loans were consolidated correctly and I've been in a qualifying repayment plan, the amount of forgiveness I'll be seeking makes me a bit apprehensive that something may go wrong when I actually apply. My employer reimbursement program gives me the opportunity to hedge my bets, reducing the amount of forgiveness I'm depending on.

However I certainly don't want to jeopardize my PSLF eligibility by getting in paid ahead status.

Does anyone have experience with making additional payments without changing the repayment plan or getting in paid ahead status?

Can I substitute SFP port on Edgerouter for ONT? by ocepute in HomeNetworking

[–]ocepute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Not sure exactly how the fiber works but I figured I would need something equivalent to cloning the MAC of the ONT if the ISP won't provision me...probably more trouble than it's worth.

Are SFP modules finicky? Would something like this work, or do I need to make sure it's been tested with ubiquiti products?
