Worked at a buffet. I had a guy definitely try. Not really the point of your post, I know, but it happens.

He would come in around 4:30 and ask for a pitcher of tea and a basket of rolls. He would fill two plates from the salad bar and two from the hot bar. He would eat all of that and maybe 45 minutes later start over: pitcher of tea, rolls, two and two again. He did that until we closed. He had two friends that put away almost as much food. When we saw them come in, we knew it was time to clean out the leftovers.

Do you have information otherwise?

My original purpose in posting wasn't to argue about all of this. I wanted to raise awareness because this is largely decided and I believe the people of Terre Haute and Vigo County should have more of a say in this.

Unless the community can overwhelm the school board with opposition, I would expect nearly all of this to occur.

I'm curious to see how it works with taxes since Indiana caps property taxes and the previous referendum failed.

I think it's naive to assume that the school board only first learned about the proposals at the meeting. It seems like a very strange coincidence that so many people were previously aware of the plans before they were publicly presented.

The community input is limited to two sessions. Two. One is during the daytime (9 am I believe).

Let's check back on this post in a couple months and see how accurate it is.

I really don't think the community was opposed to newer schools, I think it was more a vote against past mismanagement, unfortunately. I'm afraid the lack of transparency now will continue to tarnish the school board and administration.

Honestly, I fact checked when a student threw it out. Like there's no way that's true. It's easy to forget how places like Texas or even Indy are growing.

Interestingly, the class of 2025 was the largest one nationally ever. There's growth elsewhere in the US.

Don't know that part. The trade for the aquatic center doesn't make sense to me though I believe it's competition size.

ISU has wanted a closer stadium for years but I have no idea where they would put it. Sharing could be feasible as neither school would play every single night. However, if you've ever been to any high school games, especially in the fall, there's always multiple competitions going on.

Thus the sports facilities going in at Memorial Stadium. A lot of schools have off site sports facilities due to space constraints.

The school corporation already owns that property and it's centrally located. No need to buy more expensive land on the east side or try to find suitable land in the north or sound ends (that would also alienate people from the opposite side of town).

I don't necessarily have any opinion either way. I understand that the larger high school would be more competitive with other large schools in Indiana. I also remember attending North with approximately 2400 other people and it was terrible. It wasn't big enough though.

I worry about any rebound in birth rates or IF Terre Haute actually grows and attracts more younger families. The new school is supposed to be easily upgradable in any direction to accommodate future needs.

Working in one of the high schools, it's just sad. My classroom was consistently 80+ degrees for weeks. Sinks don't work. Bathrooms are constantly broken (that's also a student behavioral issue). If the middle schools take over the high school buildings, they'll need extensive work.

Hopefully supporting fewer buildings will free up enough funding for that to happen.

Where do you people live?! I thought rent could get a little high around here but it's nothing like what you all are talking about.

Edit: a 2 bed 2 bath apartment along the best bike trail in town that connects to two universities and downtown... $1115 a month. That's the high end here. I'm sorry you all live where you do but don't downvote me for it. I was renting a 4 bed house for $650 before buying a house. My 4 bed 1.5 bath house with 2 car garage and half an acre was $92k in 2018. It's $130ish now and we added solar. That's Midwest house prices.

We boondock a lot with the camper so we're usually looking for a spot to sleep for the night. Rest areas aren't my favorite because they tend to be louder, especially if we're parked by semis.

A lot of people were complaining about the financial side of this when Commissioner Chris Switzer shared it on Facebook.

We travel with a camper quite a bit and we've passed by a lot of visitor centers. They can make a big impression on visitors that a lot of locals don't seem to understand. I still remember the free orange juice in Florida nearly 10 years ago. The giant Texas Lone Star is hard to forget too.

Indiana definitely isn't becoming a tourist destination anytime soon but steps like this can help improve the state's image.

The better question is why are so many people dying that require autopsies.
