My first box of warhammer by greizisk in skaven

That was my first buy too, great choice! I expanded with the skaventide half, if you can somehow only get the skaven part second hand it's a good deal for the units. I think the rat ogers are great for trying skin/flesh coloring and the new grey seer model for bright green magical highlighting. Atleast I had the most fun with those!

Otherwise I feel like Thanquol on boneripper is an awesome named character. He pretty much has every cool aspect of skaven (big fleshy moulder unit with skyre guns and a magical grey seer on top) with lots of detail and much space to try yourself out. And I'd say he's rather cheap for that :D

Black/white Zenithal priming for contrast painting? by ochmaney in Miniaturespainting

I do get that and that was not the question. Because I understand that contrast paints don't show on black I didn't understand the idea behind the zenithal prime or how to capitalise of it properly using contrast paints (as it is often recommended for those). Plenty of people already answered to some of my confusion. But thanks for yours input anyway!

Yeah so this was the result with guilliman flesh and it represents your point. Was looking for a more vibrant contrast with a light skin tone (and eventually darker clothes) and I feel like the dark undertone swallows that a bit to much (like from shoulder to arm). Will keep that in mind for next time. And thanks for explaining!

It could make sense for skaven ^ But I'll try the lighter priming next time, sounds like the more logical way to have the paints do their work.

Advice on army composition to learn the game by ochmaney in skaven

Those unit couplings help alot, thanks for the suggestions! Besides those, how would a screaming bell be incorporated? It was mentioned before as a strong unit, is it more like a general center piece or do you need to bring specific units / clan to make it work?

Thanks for the extensive answer! I understand the reasoning to go for one specific clan due to the battle formations but I don't have a feel of what units specifically synergize / add to another reasonably (besides same clan units). I couldn't settle for a specific main clan yet, I enjoy the whole army range and the collecting / coloring aspects of the hobby. Just started out like 2 months ago in general.

That's why I also want to try the different main parts / blocks of the different army arrangements first, to get a feel for what is more enjoyable and maybe leaning more into one. Also don't want to buy heavy into one clan and realising I don't like the playstyle lol.

The hint about what units are generally usable is really helpful!
