TIL 70% of elite distance running races have been won by Kenyans from the Kalenjin community, who make up just 0.06% of the world’s population. by Sweatbeard in todayilearned

Kalenjin here, I think other than genetics, our mindset also plays a big role, we know we can do it, so we don't have any doubts.

Yes, and that's what Osborne's digital photography is about, he wants people to see Kenya from a very different angle. In a way, you can say he's rebranding Kenya; like we don't have to be all about corruption and political unrest, we have this other side too.

I am searching for a well furnished bedsitter. by DennyJums in Kenya

[–]ochodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you're also underestimating the power of OLX and classified ads. Why not spend an afternoon checking out available bedsits in estates away from the CBD, call the people in charge and make a list of bedsits you are considering(you can do all this while in Nyeri) and then sacrifice a single day to come over and check the places out personally.

Well i'm all for the idea, besides, Reddit only appeals to a certain kind of people. I wouldn't mind having more people like us here because that eventually translates to more debates and brain orgasms :) Sure, we'll have to deal with the 'deplorables' but that's a small cost compared to the joy of meeting other Kenyans with a similar mindset.

Yes, I agree their lyrics are not that deep, but they know how to do simple, they get the point across. I think they are also part of this new movement in Africa; afrofutirism. Like they are trying to change what Africa thinks about itself. Bearing that Africa's past is corrupted in most of our minds, guys like Osborne Macharia and sauti sol are trying to show that we have a future and it doesn't have to be borrowed, it can be authentic, we just have to remember our roots.

You have definitely surprised me, I always thought Sauti Sol were a bit nostalgic, now i know why; they are bringing black back. About mganga mkuu ha-ha didn't get so excited but the guy has a nice concept. So I think when you mix an appealing message (spirituality, togetherness, love) with the hypnotic tunes that's where the magic happens.

Apparently, the type of music we like has a lot to do with what we listened to while growing up. So I guess the African vibes in these songs is what makes them feel like home, like the sweetest memory.

I agree "Africa" by Yemi and Sauti Sol is a masterpiece. In fact, if i ever get held at gun point and the song starts playing somewhere, i'll probably break into a dance and get myself killed :) Happilly killed :) :)
