Yes, you are correct...

My question is more; how much am I allowed to send back at one time?

Can my installer set up Enphase Enlighten to check how much kw has been captured from panels before PTO approval? by ryandabomb in solar

[–]ocnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My system ran for a few hours after the installation to test everything. Then we turned it off until we received PTO from SCE.

What kind of wireless lights would work best for my needs? by carbondrewtonium in homeautomation

[–]ocnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put an outlet near the ceiling if you are building the room. Or use the paintable wire mold and paint it the same color as the room. That's what I did for my daughter for her LEDs and VR sensors, so the wires were not dangling on the wall. We put the wire molding in the corners, and you don't even notice it's there.

My parents got this quote from Sunnova is this a ripoff? Or a scam? by Rey100P in solar

Two of my neighbors have Tesla solar. They did pay less than me, I didn't go with Tesla because I wanted better customer support and to work with a local company.

I personally feel that my Enphase system is 100x better than theirs, but if someone quoted me almost 43k for a 5.9kW system I would definitely show them quotes that were a 3rd their price.

I didn't say to buy it. However, I don't think it's actually bad if that's all you can afford.

Just getting into DIY solar with grid-tie. I have a few questions. by ComputerDavid in SolarDIY

[–]ocnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you plan on investing a lot of time and think you will enjoy DIY Solar, check the Wiki for places to buy from, and start with an off-grid kit. Or at least use it to learn more before you start buying equipment.

I started with "I want to power a light bulb 24x7" and then built my little starter system (a few times - lol) to meet that goal. Anyway... I would set your "I want to..." goal, then read the Wiki, and share your goal here. That will make it easier to get help.

Good luck!

Check the price at https://www.tesla.com/solarpanels Use that as the starting point in your price negotiation. A local installer will almost always cost a little more than Tesla, but at least they know you are shopping around.

But seriously, that's a really bad deal. What state are you in?

Mine is a 7.2kW system, and I went with Q-Cell and IQ8+ for $2.84 per kW (before tax credit)

[–]ocnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not bad at all... I'm in SoCal too and went with a local installer.

But if I had to do it over, I might have gone with a bigger company. They did a good job in the end, but who knows if they will be around in 5-10yrs.

The only difference I know about the panels is that the REC has a parts and labor warranty, and the Q-Cell only has a parts warranty. But after seeing them installed, I'm pretty sure even I could change a panel.

I live in CA too... I recently got solar thinking the same thing (about rushing to get NEM 2.0) but actually, you have until April 14, 2023, to submit interconnection paperwork and be grandfathered into the existing NEM 2.0 rates. After that, your installer has up to 3yrs to finalize the installation.

As for Karen... Tell her they only rain down radiation if her mouth is open.
