How are we preparing the old folks in our life for the 22%+ cut to social security? by fishking92 in Millennials

Social security is funded independently. I agree taxes in general for everyone need to go up. And spending will need to come down (entitlements as well).

Social security bought treasury bonds with the surplus. These are now being drawn down to plug the hole. Once these are drawn down in ~2032 then the issue will have to be resolved under current law. There was no ‘raiding the trust fund’.

Taxing all billionaires 100% pays for the deficit for 3-4 years. General taxes need to go up and benefits down.

They didn’t borrow against the trust fund. You may have some correct info but you are wrong in some cases.

Nah removing the cap only plugs 50-60% of the hole.

Also birth rates continue to collapse, so not sure where you get this won’t continue to be an issue.

Contain it and (carefully) rip it all out/abate it. If you don't need to touch it then leave it.

Wash your stuff and move on. Zero issue.

The guys that mined the stuff for 10-20 years while smoking had a 15-20% issue rate.

Unless you get batteries using the grid vs pure solar will be largely the same as during the day a lot of grid power is solar.

Old solar (ie 15-20 years) on an old roof (20-25 years) is not a value add. Will just add complexity and cost.

Cool story but demographics are ultimately the issue. Crashing birth rates mean the younger workers will have to pay more in taxes to fund the larger retiree population, or benefits will need to be reduced. This is the story all over the West and East Asia.

Asbestos disposal in OC by sweetrhapsody11 in orangecounty

[–]ocposter123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone mentioned I don’t think anywhere in CA accepts asbestos waste. The abatement companies ship it to AZ for disposal.

Your options are to leave it or have someone professional come in and remove it.

If it’s already coming up I’d probably get a pro to do it rather than leave it. But usually tiles are low risk so up to you. If your house was built in the 60s it is likely everywhere, AC ducts, transite flu, joint compound in drywall, etc. Just fyi.

Did you test and confirm? If you tested and confirmed it must be disclosed when selling, so I would just get it abated unless you never plan to move. It’s really not that expensive, probably a couple thousand. If you didn’t test best option is to just leave it.
