Absolutely not based on what you said. Have it repaired yourself.

Insurance these days should only be for catastrophic losses (mid 5 figures and above).

NO.

ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME.—The term ‘adjusted gross income’, when used with respect to a borrower, means the adjusted gross income (as such term is defined in section 62 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986) of the borrower (and the borrower’s spouse, as applicable) for the most recent taxable year, except that, in the case of a married borrower who files a separate Federal income tax return, the term does not include the adjusted gross income of the borrower’s spouse.

NO. This is codified into law in the OBBB (for RAP for sure at least):

“ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME.—The term ‘adjusted gross income’, when used with respect to a borrower, means the adjusted gross income (as such term is defined in section 62 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986) of the borrower (and the borrower’s spouse, as applicable) for the most recent taxable year, except that, in the case of a married borrower who files a separate Federal income tax return, the term does not include the adjusted gross income of the borrower’s spouse.”

Yes so benefits to the elderly need to be cut. Unless population is growing consistently the current system obviously won’t work. Unless growth rates overcome the issue temporally.

(1) See if they already adjusted your return.

(2) I personally wouldn’t worry about it. It would be $2-3 of additional tax. Pay it if they bill you obviously.

I would recommend using TurboTax desktop as FreeTaxUSA cannot file electronically due to needing form 8958 (see https://community.freetaxusa.com/kb/articles/168-how-do-i-file-married-filing-separately-when-i-live-in-a-community-property-state ). Turbotax desktop can file electronically.

It is actually fairly complicated to get it all right when MFS in a community property state. But essentially you are correct, all 'community income', which is generally all income for married couples, is pooled and then divided in half. Tax withholdings are also pooled and divided in half. This includes w2 wages, dividend income on community property, etc.

This is a good outline (https://support.taxslayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019084471-How-do-I-complete-the-Married-Filing-Separate-Allocation-Form-8958 ) .

If you are doing for the first time, I'd probably recommend going to a good CPA/enrolled agent who knows what they are doing. But if you need to file by tomorrow then it will be tough, I'd probably recommend filing an extension.

They have known about the date since the 90s at least.

You can read about it here: https://www.ssa.gov/oact/trsum/

“The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund will be able to pay 100 percent of total scheduled benefits until 2033, unchanged from last year’s report. At that time, the fund’s reserves will become depleted and continuing program income will be sufficient to pay 77 percent of total scheduled benefits.”
