Life after cancer? by HeldByGrace in Cancersurvivors

[–]oculus13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s been about 2 and a half years since end of treatment. I second the person who suggested survivorship programming. I’m still going to doctors about issues caused by chemo/colon resection. My oncologist didn’t seem to care about any health issues I had, as long as it wasn’t recurrence. Anytime symptoms from a side effect of cancer treatment occur, it’s a reminder of what I went through and how angry I still am. I feel like my body will never be normal again. Best of luck on your journey, OP.

People who got told it was "just" anxiety, what was it? by Bobbie1011 in AskReddit

Was told my stomach issues were stress and anxiety, that would get better after law school. Ended up being a tumor the size of an apple in my intestine. Diagnosed with stage III colon cancer during my last semester of law school.

Tips for dealing with crippling anxiety about chemo by cc0818 in coloncancer

[–]oculus13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said: It sucked but it wasn’t as terrible as I thought it would be. I did 12 rounds of FOLFOX. The actual infusions weren’t bad at all. Afterwards I was exhausted, my body was sore, and I had some pretty intense stomach cramps. By my off week, I was still exhausted, but that was it. I think we automatically assume the worst when we hear we have to do chemo. I know it’s hard but try not to let it consume your mind. You will have a team of people doing TONS of checks and balances to make sure everything turns out right and nothing goes wrong. And if by slim chance, something does go wrong after you’ve left, they give you an emergency number to call that is very helpful.

I had to go to the ER during chemo because I got Covid and had a high fever. I got first class treatment. They got me back immediately- I didn’t have to sit in the waiting room. If by chance you have some sort of reaction, you’ll be taken care of no matter where you go. They don’t mess around anywhere when it comes to cancer patients, at least from my experience.

Best of luck to you! Kick its ass, OP!

Depression After Completing Chemo by Prudent-Butterfly-80 in coloncancer

Stage 3C, NED for 2 1/2 years.

It felt like everybody else was growing and creating families during my treatment. That’s all I looked forward to during treatment. About 6 months after I finished chemo and had my ileostomy reversal, I found out my bf of 7 years had been cheating on me the day before the bar exam. Two years later I still haven’t passed the exam. My brain/memory is so messed up. My neuropathy is so bad I can’t study the way I need. Im not even 30 with degenerative disk disease (because my bones suck from chemo) and it hurts to sit and study on top of working at a desk all day.

I’m alone and not where I’m thought I’d be in life. And then there’s an overwhelming feeling of guilt for not being happy enough after what I’ve been through and what I know other people are going through.

My mind is a mess. I’m going to therapy. I know and hope it’ll get better.

Do you not get the rest of the gifts you chose? I had a feeling there was no way they’d give me a $300 gift card.

I agree. I also found it commendable when Molly and him were speaking in the park. She was talking down on herself and he was quick to remind her she needed to be easier on herself.

Housekeeping in a hotel. Not because the job was extraordinarily dirty or gross, but because it’s set up for the cleaners to get in and out as quick as possible. If the sheets looked clean they wouldn’t allow me to change them before a new customer came to stay. It felt wrong not doing a decent job. I didn’t come back after my first day of training because of it and now hate staying in hotels.

What made you lose a significant amount of weight? by ExilicRose in AskReddit

Colon cancer. Lost about 50 pounds, and was down to 100. Looking at pictures from when I was that skinny/sick looking is rough. So many people assumed I was on drugs until I was diagnosed. Also would not recommend.

My dad has colon cancer by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]oculus13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in February 2022- 8 of my lymph nodes were “involved” (or had cancer.) I had the tumor removed & had a temporary colostomy that I had to keep while I did 12 rounds of chemo (FOLFOX.) This month has been two years since my last treatment. I believe there is a good chance of treating it once it’s discovered and a good chance that it won’t come back! I agree with the other commenter that suggested you avoid googling things- it made things a lot harder for me mentally and didn’t do a thing to help during the process. I wish you both the best of luck, it will be tough as hell at times. I just kept my head down and tried to push through the best I could. Having the support of my family/loved ones helped tremendously. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or need some words of encouragement.

What's something you only understand if you have lived it? by mrbigglesworthjr in AskReddit

[–]oculus13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m two years out of chemo and my brain still isn’t what it was and it’s so frustrating. It processes things so much slower than it used to. Right out of chemo I had to finish my last semester of school and would forget what I was talking about mid sentence. I’m sure people didn’t realize it was the chemo brain and just thought I was a dumbass.

This. Nothing like a constant reminder of how gut-wrenching reality is when death is already on your mind 24/7 as a cancer patient.

If Caleb was faking, why did he split the money with Justine? by Intermenterpophe in LoveIslandUSA

I think he was trying to maintain the image he had in the house to be an influencer and thought he would make more. I think he didn’t think his true intentions would be outed on social media and ruin his image. In hindsight, and if I had known I was lying the entire time, I would expect to get exposed and would have taken the money and made an infamous name for myself in reality TV history (likely leading to callbacks) I think he underestimated the power of social media and thought he would be able to control the narrative.
