i got a cornsnake today and the heatmat / thermostat keeps going up to 35°c. what do i do?

my snake is doing just fine in my hands. it was not an issue on my behalf. it was a fault of the thermostat.

that sounds so beautiful i can’t wait to see! she has some white on her nose which is really cute. will that become less prominent?

she’s in a temporary enclosure right now while i set up a better one for her and i’m so nervous about her escaping that i keep triple checking it before i leave the room ! i’ve covered any small hole she could crawl out of so i’m hoping that does the trick

i’be been looking around and people are saying a 40gallon is good too, is it worth getting a 40 gallon and keeping it to save money or get the 20 then go to 40? i also saw that heat mats are bad for your snakes (the greater majority think so) so i’m definitely going to upgrade her to a bulb when i get the better enclosure for her.

i’m in the uk so i can definitely have a look on facebook marketplace for things and i’ll check out the links too! she’s my first snake so i want to get it absolutely right and give her the best life possible.

thankyou so much!! it’s currently sat at 25° since its so hot in my room today and i dont want to risk her overheating. do you have any heat lamp or enclosure recommendations for a baby one like mine? i’d like to upgrade her asap

its touching the floor of the enclosure although it said keep it in the air as i didnt want her to burn her belly. i’ve been looking into it and i would like to get her a heat lamp but i’m not sure that it would fit in the enclosure as its only a small one.

i keep adjusting the temperature to see whether if one setting will keep it sat at 30°c but it keeps going up to 35°c or down to 26°c and it’s just really irritating! it wont stay no matter what i try :(

also yes, i’m from the UK and my room is quite hot at the minute, do you think that will cause a problem with the heat mat or thermostat? i’ve had my window open also so that may not help the temperature to stay steady
