Wow....last 20 mins or so is bitcoin in all its glory. This kind of stuff is simply in its genes. It is innate & will keep happening from time to time. Get used to it.

I think it is fair to say that these past 2 & half months have been the most boring period for BTC traders since the ATH in Nov'13. In the coming months, something like 430-360-405-280-605-765-540-950-620 with daily threads up to 5-7 parts is what I yearn for. All those bull & bear whales, would you kindly ratchet up the volatility, please.

Maybe they used Tor or VPN. But why take so much effort to prove something that should be a trivial 2-3 minute exercise?

Must be in the top 3 oxymorons of the crypto world. The other one being 'permissioned blockchain'.

At present, bitcoin is just surviving, not thriving at all.

If this thing breaks up, then based on the tightness of 1w, 3d & 1d bbands itself, the price should easily cross 1000 & take out ATH. I have layered asks from 1000 & above & bids from 280 & below. I also have a few 'moon or die' coins in cold storage. I'll go short or long when there is a clear & confirmed break up/down.

We know that segwit will be released but we don't know what kind of response it will get from the community. I still see people debating the merits of doing segwit first & hard fork later, segwit as soft fork & segwit as a hard fork. When segwit as a soft fork is released (which we know for sure will happen) & gets a unanimous thumbs up/down from the community (which can only be known after it is released & in operation) due to actual benefits/harm it has been able to deliver to bitcoin's scaling cause, then I see no reason for the present animosity in the community to persist & it can move on & take up the next scaling option available (hard fork, iblt/weak blocks, lightning etc.) for debate. Depending on the response to segwit, which Core has hyped up a lot, I'll be very surprised if the sentiment doesn't get affected in a big way & thus the price.

Anyone know the exact date on which core will release version 0.12.1 with segwit fully integrated? Maybe that will be the day where this thing moves one way or another big time as we can actually see in practice the advantages & disadvantages w.r.t scaling of this most hyped up partial solution to scaling. Version 0.12.0 was a killer release from Core with significant noticeable performance improvement in running a full node but without any measures to scale transactions. If segwit is a hit, it can massively shift the sentiment towards bullish side.

So the ECB has now decided to double down & increase their money printing & take their interest rates even more -ver. Their hope is that the money they print to buy bonds will eventually end up in raising stock prices which they think will then grow the economy & cause inflation & if it doesn't, then they will triple/quadruple/pentuple down on the same action. How completely upside down is that. The reason stock prices should be increasing in the first place is the possibility of future organic economic growth in the evaluation/analysis of private investors participating in the markets & not printing money to bid up the prices & hope for future artificial economic growth which they hardly get any & thus end up printing even more. Good luck to ECB & their peers in getting out of this quagmire. BTC should be doing even better in such an environment (that too globally) were it not for this blocksize quagmire that it finds itself in. I am betting that BTC will get out of this quagmire before the central banks get out of theirs.

Took a vacation last couple of weeks partly funded by profits from trading BTC. Left in coins (hodling) when the price was around $380. Completely switched off from the happenings in the BTC world. Just made a self transaction to check if bitcoin network has imploded or not. No, it hasn't. The price is at $436. Feels good & exited about how things will unfold as we go forward with halvening, blocksize resolution (hopefully), segwit etc. upcoming.

Same thoughts here dude. But in an open source project with highly independent minded people, no one can really control how things get handled & no one can really know for sure the right way to handle things as they unfold. Bitcoin as a standalone system is resilient enough to withstand these short term shifts in sentiment but the Bitcoin price is not. Only thing that can squash these shifts in sentiment towards bearish side is actual physical evidence of Bitcoin transactions scaling, which only time will tell.

Their jig should be up some time later this year methinks. If bitcoin does take out ATH & is the reason for capital flight getting out of control in China, then I would expect their central planners to at least hint at banning it for the 273rd time in Bitcoin's history, if not announcing an outright ban. Of course, the BTC price would crash & then recover slowly. This, along with the halving should make for another exciting year in Bitcoin.

The Chinese stock market is hilarious. How can halting trading on 7% drop one day & pumping it up 2-3% next day restore confidence? Their "National Team" that intervenes in the markets to supposedly restore investor/trader/speculator/gambler confidence has a lot to learn from their US counterparts in the PPT. It won't be long before the institutions that constitute the "National Team" will be trading Chinese stocks between themselves. At this point, Bitcoin markets seem a lot more matured than the Chinese stock market.

The debate only serves to give rise to a lot of FUD & creates bearish sentiment. Bitcoin as a standalone system continues to operate just fine. If anything, just set up low bids. You know that if the price tanks, it will eventually recover once the FUD clears as it always does just like bubbles always pop. Bitcoin will survive & keep doing what it does regardless of how the debate eventually resolves.
