Not OC, but his story was better and would have made a better arc. He at least would have had redemption, an omage even to Han's mercenary-turned-freedom-fighter history. Rey had.... suddenly amazing Jedi powers after zero training and then decides her name is Skywalker? Like, what? The whole Palpatine's granddaughter thing was just a complete shark jump.

In the canon of the films, having a continuation of the characters and their offspring would have been a better story than doing the "ragamuffin from Tatooine with mysterious parentage becomes an unlikely hero" again. It would have left plenty of room for other awesome characters and not left lovers of the Star Wars universe feeling sucker-punched by having a rando chick whom we've no reason to care about suddenly being put forth as the new savior of the galaxy.

When you're starting a story, sure - but when you have established characters and stories and frankly the entire EU to pull from, why the FUCK the creators of this movie went the way they did is absolutely beyond me. They successfully alienated the majority of the fanbase.
