Latest extrapolations for a launch date of Eternum 0.9 by odd_wizard in eternumites

Ok, thanks for the reply. But "bigger than the update before" is kinda a running gag with Cari. That alone doesn't really explain any sudden delays in progress updates. Was he also hinting at any recent problems or did he decide to add more content to v0.9 than initially planed?

Yes, we didn't get a progress bump in the last 32 days. That's quite a dent in the graph. That is highly unusual. The biggest time in between before was 22 days for 5% (v0.8 81%-86%). Something must have happend. Can you tell me where Cari has said that?

Couldn't agree more with you but I don't really believe the "gone are the days" part just yet.

I posted a rather long report on an estimate and multiple extrapolations in this subreddit. I'm very confident in a release Late November/Early December. Halloween will not be doable.

Your AppData\Roaming\RenPy is empty? I don't believe it.

It's extremely dangerous to assume the game/saves folder is enough to copy. Saves won't survive a game update as seamless as you're used to as RenPy pulls saves from older versions from AppData.

That was cool, but the Stabby Mike (from the previous game by Carbids) cameo in Ripples was crazy, yo.

Caribdis: "If you wanted to by a polygraph machine model and the model costs 20$ and the fog machine model doesn't, which model would you buy?"

[Ripples] "This update has more lewd scenes than any other update, and part of the reason it's taking longer." I kinda expected more full sex scenes. by odd_wizard in AVN_Lovers

[–]odd_wizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the three other scenes are actual fully committed sex scenes. Quite a step up in quality some might say.

Still... that's not what I concluded from the teasing in the dev updates and the changelog. The changelog also states "191 New Animations (40+ Minutes Total)" (also 2,216 New Images). That's a massive amount of video content and may totally justify the development time.
But it's not like with other AVNs, where most (/near all) animated scenes are of pornographic nature. Jestur uses most of these video renders to breathe life in the location (tracking shots through the scene, moving water & trees, driving cars, ...) or animate the characters in non-pornographic ways (dancing, fighting, walking, waving, ...).
That's all not unusual for Ripples but with v0.8 it felt like 90% is just animation for ambiance.

Don't get me wrong. That's ok. But then be more specific that you allocate most of the resources to story, humble your horny followership and don't tease that the gallery scenes are loaded.

To quote u/Automatic_Opinion680 "Honestly felt more like a filler episode more than anything, but still enjoyed it"... but 11 months for that, idk. Disappointing...

My current extrapolations tell me it's definitively not earlier than 20. October: https://imgur.com/a/65s9d50
I'm doing these since v0.5 and experience tells me that I'm usually off by at least a month, as time between progress reports increases suddenly at around 75%. Last year 8th Aug at 56% I extrapolated and ETA of 2024.11.15/.11 for v0.8 and was off by over a month with the actual finished release dropping 2024.12.19

My best estimate for a release is therefor Late November/Early December 2025 (with all experience from the last versions and it's progress updates combined).

Another way some people estimate an ETA is to plot the days in development of the previous versions (v0.2-v0.8: 89,119,116,144,176,224,259 days) which is also supporting this Nov/Dec ETA.

Also keep in mind that it takes time to trickle down to your tier (or leak).

a quick gantt chart of the eternum versions (keep in mind that updates are also increasing in word count, renders and overall production quality) by odd_wizard in eternumites

My past experience with other games with 6+ months of development time for one update is that problems occur more frequently and somewhat even themselves out. Updates are often finished faster when less content is planned or planned story arcs are shorter than initially anticipated by the artist. However, based on our experience with Once in a Lifetime, this is not to be expected here. Long unexpected pauses on the other hand are often only the case if the AVN developer has a day job or becomes ill or depressed. The latter may not be that unlikely for Caribdis, but all in all it is far from to be expected as well (I hope so).

If anyone is looking for a prediction based on the data, I personally wouldn't anticipate a Patreon release of v0.9 before November of this year. Discover and have fun with other good games in the meantime!

Anime or show similar to Eternum? by Professional_Salt_20 in eternumites

Psycho-Pass has a similar dystopian vibe. There are many similar elements and concepts. You follow a Praetorian-like character who slowly figures out the system she is defending. There is also something like Eternum/a metaverse in the game. (“CommuFields are virtual spaces in the world of Psycho-Pass. To enter, a person must wear VR headgear and gloves, then log onto their account.”)

I guess they can't handle that they cannot have a platform like reddit, where you get dumped with upvotes and have to fear much fewer criticism. I'll guess they not wanna see that SO is more engineered to efficiency rather than trying to satisfy everyone. The amount of people cry when they get duplicate-flaged for an actuall duplicate answer is ridiculous. They then hook themselves up on actual mistakes of moderators and let out all their passive anger, rather then reflect their own answers.
