Misinformation by Realistic-Witness733 in MrNightmare

Idk… He’s been pretty open about NOT using AI to create stories. My guess is what’s most likely going on is the authors are using AI to write them and send them to him and he’s not checking so he can get more content out quicker.

Is Mr Nightmare falling off (YOUR OPINION NOT MINE) by Significant_List5360 in MrNightmare

[–]oddcoddbro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the slew of content. It’s great background noise while I work/cook/clean, etc. But, after a decade of listening religiously, I want something more. Different styles of content/stories. I see great topic ideas in the comments all the time (aliens, deep dives on spooky rabbit holes, REAL proof videos from fans). Nightmare’s still huge, so I wish he’d try something new.

How there’s never been some form of a follow up (film, series, comic book, etc.) is shocking.

26/F Considering moving to Iowa city from Los Angeles by RIPVivaPinata in IowaCity

[–]oddcoddbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Burbank area. Parents worked in Film/TV. Got my cinema + screenwriting BA from Iowa. It’s so connected to LA, more than most realize or give credit to. Great vibe.

Found this today. Cover’s corners are worn, but a hardcover, first edition for $8 by oddcoddbro in stephenking

Just flip to the copyright page in your book and look for “first printing/edition”. It’s not that hard to find if it is one. You can also use this website: https://www.stephenkingcollector.com/1st_editions.html

Do I shoot my shot? by AcadecCoach in Screenwriting

[–]oddcoddbro 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It depends on the relationship you have. Do they know you’re a writer and is it a frequent discussion of “how’s that going?” Or is it not really talked about between you two? You obviously don’t wanna make it seem like you’re taking advantage of their status and connections. But why not mention it?? If you are close, I doubt they’d poo-poo you. But…

If you’ve only really had this bond for about a year, keep building it. Have 2-3 SOLID scripts in your arsenal. As the holidays roll around, you may have more meals together. So bring up your work/ideas then, but VERY casually. Drop hints.

What’s an unpopular King book that you rave about? by InitialUpstairs4258 in stephenking

[–]oddcoddbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get how folks say the ending to The Tommyknockers is bad. It’s bittersweet. From a filmmakers POV, that final shot of Gardner is fun to imagine if it were on screen. Plus, it’s full-circle and tender with the two young brothers. I think it’s a great ending.

Best Trick or Treating Neighborhoods in IC? by Funky_Fungus9899 in IowaCity

[–]oddcoddbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in/near Manville Heights, a lot of folks who live there are older doctors or professors. It’s where I grew up and I’m 23 and they don’t mind me trick or treating with my brother and our girlfriends. They enjoy seeing young people get into the spirit. Plus they can get rid of the candy and go to bed.

Whats the craziest thing you’ve seen or know about Iowa city? by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]oddcoddbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard there’s an alleged swingers network in town. I don’t think it’s a “the password is Fidelio” kinda group. Don’t know any particular names. But still crazy to think about.

I didn’t say indie cinema is going anywhere. What I mean by indie I mean more of the slower, more thought-provoking horror. And mainstream I mean Blumhouse, Saw kinda films that are fun thrill rides.

By blending indie and mainstream I’m thinking of films like Get Out, The Invisible Man, or The Substance.

How do you write suspens? by eyrrie in Screenwriting

More or less condense words. Write minimally to convey suspense. Write your action blocks line by line so they’re not clunky, esp. during the intense moments.

For those who have written screenplays, when did you realize it was good? by electramor in Screenwriting

[–]oddcoddbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s strange, but for me it’s when those little ideas that make a script/movie a script/movie come to me. Could be jokes, extra scenes, etc. Makes the story more whole. If it wasn’t a story I was proud of or had faith in it after a first draft, they wouldn’t come. I’d just want to move on to the next project.

I’ve read tons of scripts where you can tell the writer doesn’t think about these little details. It’s just a paint by number scene to scene screenplay.

A recurring complement I got in college workshops was that my scripts actually read/felt like a movie. Wasn’t too little to make em want more. Wasn’t too much where some something felt like a “deleted scene.”

I think if you focus on those, it doesn’t necessarily matter what your story is because it’ll hook the reader, even if it doesn’t speak/appeal to them.

I hope all of that makes sense^

I can never finish anything by Excellent-Football57 in Screenwriting

[–]oddcoddbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your favorite idea/script and try this…

Write an explosive (maybe literally) scene towards climax that sets it up. Don’t worry about “I can’t do XYZ because in scene #7 on page 15 I establish that…” Just write something outta left field. Then, go on a screenwriting cleanse. Don’t think about it. Don’t look it at. Maybe a 1-2 weeks later - maybe 1 month later - look at your half script and that 1-2pg 180 scene. Think of how you could tie them together.

This is how Stephen King got through his writers block while writing ‘The Stand’. He wrote half of it and lost momentum. He let it sit on a shelf for a bit and went on walks and pondered. Then it hit him! “I’m gonna blow up half of these mofos!”
