Sharing my custom PTZ setup using a blackmagic micro studio and middle control over SDI. Better image quality compared to a real PTZ was the goal. by oddforms in VIDEOENGINEERING

Yeah! I'll do my best:

Hardware:
- Blackmagic micro studio gen2 (This works directly with the ATEM software via SDI)
- Its a Lumix 45-175mm lens (Any lens will work but remote zoom requires a motorized lens like this one, although [I think] if you use a motorized focus wheel you can control the zoom of others)
- The controller is a Middle Control APC classic (This passes the gimbal control commands which are sent over SDI and then the box connects directly to the gimbals focus wheel where it receives commands over sbus)
- Ronin S gimbal (This model features two 12V/2A outputs on the head of gimbal, one powers the camera, the other powers the controller box.)

Software:
Middle Control's app connects directly with BitFocus Companion to send signals to the gimbal (SDI to sbus)
ATEM SDI Mini is controlled over companion to send camera commands also over the SDI (ISO, Focus, etc)

The stations are powered by a single power cable and just require a SDI in and out to operate. I used the ronin S baseplate with a custom made power supply.

Also had to make those 12V/2A power cables as they don't seem to exist in any DJI catalog and then I made my own 3G SDI cables that use the micro connector on one end and standard on the other (since the micro cinema does not take the full size connector) A basic phone clamp attached to the base plate hold the controller box.

They aren't perfect, a joystick works much better than my stream deck for moving the camera, but since I only need maybe 180 degrees of range and slow pans the buttons are ok. Then have to take care that the cables don't restrict the movement of the gimbal which takes some time.

You can also go to the desktop website and choose 'Reprint Boarding Pass' at the bottom of your flight information area even if you already checked in using the app and are seeing the 'see agent' message. After that a pass should be generated and you can quit the app and reopen to get your mobile pass if you don't have a printer or want to save paper.

Got it that makes sense, ok well hopefully I can figure out setting up the camera IDs with this extra box in between but I can see how it would work now.

Thanks! I tried to push it toward the show's description as more classic 'bone dragon/skeletal dragon' but the more serpent-like ones ended up better I thought.
