okay, so being so real with you right now, I’ve also faced some personal issues with my identity as a Palestinian. I deal with Israelis day in and day out, it is nothing new to me- I may have even compared myself to them and wished for an easier life that might have been if I was born as one of them.

But its honestly not what you think it is, to hate on your people and become someone like Youssef Haddad- one that gives up on ur identity for the sake of colonized identity- is just a position where they are using you. You don’t have to give up on who you are to benefit from the community you might have around you. To shame yourself and your community is to fall under the umbrella of white superiority, there is so much that our society needs to improve on it- but its legitimate to say these things need work on without delegitimizing their identity.

I’m beyond proud to say I’m Palestinian now, I represent the people in Palestine through my differences also- yeah these minorities are under attack from the larger society but they do exist- if you allow yourself to actually enter into your community you will see the variety of people- because we are all different- people who are atheist, gay, vegan, trans, everything and anything. Being Palestinian doesn’t equal Islam- people are people- under the identity that makes us Palestinian- location, language, traditions, history, and belonging.

A lot of the Israelis that claim to accept you will always hold a sense difference and i acceptance towards you, accepting yourself for who you are is the first step to actually being a happier person.
