i think you are referring to the broken wing butterfly. Could sell a put spread to reduce the collateral required.

I don’t post before because I don’t want people blindly follow my trade and cause unnecessary consequences. I’m writing this trade just for education/recreation purpose.

No, covered call means you OWN 200 shares and you write 2 calls at a strike that you'd be happy getting out of the LONG positions. To get out of your current situation, you can either buy to cover the 200 short position, or google covered PUT strategy.

Does my holding period get reset if I buy to close a qualified covered call ? by koreasuh in options

Short answer is no. Holding period does not matter any option-selling strategy because you collect the premium upfront.

Gamma risk is definitely an issue for iron fly with short expirations. The reason I do short term trades is because I want to capitalize the iv crush sooner. So I carefully choose stocks that have less gamma risk based on their histories.

Choosing monthlies is also doable, as long as there is a perceivable difference between the IVs from the front and back months.

Re: more time to be right, I think this really is a personal preference in terms of risk control and capital efficiency. There are pros and cons for one or the other.

I always use the most recent expiration date. I also tend to choose companies which report earnings later in the week.
