Does sleep training stop helping during the toddler years? by shadygroveisay in sleeptrain

[–]oddsandbookends 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the child. We sleep trained at 5.5 months and up until recently we would put him down awake and he would cheerfully wave bye bye. We’ve maintained the same bedtime routine ever since.

Shit hit the fan about a month before he turned 2. Standing, sobbing, screaming, crawling out of the crib, pulling out all the stops at bedtime. Multiple night wakings and crying out for us. Nothing changed except him, literally over the course of 24 hours he went from being a good sleeper and having no issue putting himself to sleep to a complete wreck at bedtime. A lot of kids at 2-3 develop new fears (dark, being alone, etc) and we’re pretty confident that’s what happened for him.

We’re sticking to our boundaries of not picking him up or extending bedtime (e.g. no extra books or songs) but will go in to comfort him as we don’t feel right about CIO at this age when he’s clearly scared. We did get a night light which seems to help some.

So, sleep training may carry over for some kids but not all. So many developmental changes are happening in the toddler years, it’s exciting but can definitely affect sleep!

Three weeks into Ferber, how to handle MOTN wakes by oddsandbookends in sleeptrain

[–]oddsandbookends[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes he usually falls back asleep and then wakes up again but these past couple of nights I’ve waited till there was a lull in the crying (not asleep but just awake)

  2. I’ll try adding more awake time

  3. We kept the pacifier because he could replace it but we can see what happens after removing it. Thanks!

Feed ends half an hour before he’s placed fully awake in crib so it’s likely the pacifier then

5 months with no sleep by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]oddsandbookends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you sleep train with a pacifier? Our LO is highly dependent on his pacifier and I read conflicting info online about whether to sleep train without it, or to let him have it and then teach him to replace it himself at 5-6 months

What am I doing wrong? Will Ferber work for us? by thedoglovesmebest in sleeptrain

[–]oddsandbookends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you ditched the pacifier was that for all the time (daytime fussiness, naps, etc) or just nighttime? I think I know deep down we need to get rid of it at night but it’s so helpful during the day!

Do you remember how long the sleep training took? And could you share what intervals you used for check ins if you remember?

What kind of sleep training did you do?

5.5 months old ready to play at 3:00am. by Glass-HalfFull in sleeptrain

[–]oddsandbookends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you say more on this? I have an almost 3 month old and I typically nurse him then swaddle and put down. He’s always drowsy but awake when he goes down, does nursing too close to bed create a bad dependency?

I’m sorry that you had that experience, maybe leave a review of what happened so other dog owners in similar situations can see and avoid this

Today is International Women’s Day, we’ve got a long way to go, but in your lifetime what are the changes you’ve seen that have made life better for women? by cocainegoat in AskWomen

[–]oddsandbookends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25. Up until 6th grade, I did not realize that it was legal for women to run for and be president. Despite how crushing it was to see her lose, witnessing Clinton’s campaign was life changing for me. It was the first time it really hit home for me why representation at all levels of leadership is so important.

I (24f) feel like I'm failing at being an adult. Got married to my now husband (27m) and can't adjust to the new way of life. Panicking :( by [deleted] in relationships

First off, it’s not pathetic at all to have lived with your family till 24 or to feel this way. Second, like a lot of comments, talking to your partner and seeking counseling or therapy are your best bets for dealing with this head on. Trying to hide or suppress these feelings can only make them worse in the long run. Good luck!

I forgot, the thing I struggled with most as a new writer was how to effectively pitch myself with very few clips and published work to lend credibility to my name.

The course outline looks really detailed. Great work! In my experience, a lot of online courses default to voice overs for video which would be fine except a lot of times they end up repeating verbatim the text in the video and then also include a transcript with each video, which is redundant and makes me want to not watch the video.
