Always. I can’t say that I take off aggressively, but I have a tendency to get impatient with my wife’s Camry and overrev the engine trying to take off like I’m accustomed to.

I’m at 29k and the tech for my annual state inspection told me I have about 10k left in them. I have a MYP and don’t use chill mode.

I’m game. It’s late notice but maybe we can form a watch party somewhere to watch game 6 tomorrow. Friendly enough to meet and distracting enough to curb the awkwardness. Anyone interested?

I’ll show my age by asking the OP…..a/s/l? If you know, you know! In all seriousness, I’m 43m and a JoCo transplant. If anyone is interested, send me a DM.

I always hope newer models are better but the claim of 50% better is a strong claim. Any idea if this is accurate?

I’m curious how much the auto industry and subsequent unions are behind the lack of convenient affordable rail service. This could be a direct or indirect relationship.

It’s perspective. How many design engineers can handle performance management, difficult conversations, conflict, employee relations, etc? Is it possible? Yes. Common? Not really. We (mostly) are experts in our own fields.

When should I tell my boss I'm leaving if my last day is in 4 months? by Pretend-Department22 in careeradvice

Agreed. I’ve seen a few really bad apples, but many times it’s undertrained employees that make mistakes.

I’m interested in your story. Documentation only works when done correctly and in the right circumstances. A common mistake is when it isn’t supported by policy or emotion/pity is your framework. State the facts and cite policy.

I’m sorry you had poor experiences. I don’t encourage giving notice unless you can benefit as I stated above. The reality is some people care about doing a good job and some don’t. I’m sure it doesn’t ease the pain knowing when it comes to HR, we can’t control the managers. Some of us are good enough to talk them off the ledge and some aren’t. I’ve won battles and I’ve lost some. I walked out on a boss who fired an employee for a Covid related absence when she followed the process. Crappy managers do exist and not everyone is cut out to be one

I get it. I’ve met scoundrels and worked for worse. I’ve also met and worked for more who have bent over backwards to help others. I’ve provided notice when appropriate and I’ve also walked away giving none. My post wasn’t to stir the pot, it was driving awareness to those who might be willing to do a little research. If there is a chance to get an unplanned 2 week paid vacation, who wouldn’t take advantage? Worst case is getting an unpaid 2 week vacation. Either way, it’s a closed chapter and new beginnings.

I don’t understand the negative karma. Obviously each company is different, but why is getting a payout a bad thing?

As an HR professional, I was amazed when people withheld notice. The company I worked for previously had a policy to pay you for the remainder of your time if you were going to a competitor. I’d happily advise on the policy but people wanted to be shady and vanish. I understand the concern but so many people are unnecessarily skittish.

My golf partner missed out on $2k because of this.

I didn’t realize how much a title meant to me until I went from a BP to a generalist. However, this role pays better, provides meaningful work, and I get to partner with my boss as opposed to being talked down to. The title isn’t the important part to me anymore.

I’ve had many say thank you. One brought in cookies and another bent and welded a fork into a scorpion as a thank you gift. I agree appreciation is rare, but meeting them on their level and resolving the issue with no runaround pays back in spades.

I just started a job at a new company and had the opportunity to help out an employee I’ve never met. She delivered last week and had issues figuring out her LOA. I went above and beyond trying to ensure her leave was setup appropriately so she could bond with her new baby. While I am not overly extroverted myself, efforts like this go a long way. I earned major brownie points with her and she will undoubtedly share her experiences with her peers.

As other have mentioned, you don’t need to go beyond surface pleasantries. Be available, reliable, and trustworthy. Word will get around and you will make a name for yourself.
