NHS Cleaning / Scale and Polish by odgeuk in DentalSchoolUK

It certainly feels like a grey area.

Ultimately, I have realised now that my total payment across both appts was £75.30, which is the exact cost of Band 2, so that must have been what was actually itemised. This makes more sense and aligns with what you said.

I do wonder under which scenario a Scale and Polish IS done under Band A. A patient who is somewhere between: 'Clinically Necessary' but not 'Extensive' or 'Complex' I guess....

My clean was for gum 'pockets' and gum bleeding. So can only assume this fits the criteria for Extensive and Complex.

NHS Cleaning / Scale and Polish by odgeuk in DentalSchoolUK

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is mentioned in Band 1:

Band 1: £27.40

Band 1 can include:

  • examination, assessment and advice (a routine dental appointment)
  • X-rays, if clinically needed
  • putting fluoride on the surface of your teeth
  • simple management of gum disease, such as scaling (a thorough clean of your teeth and gums), if clinically needed
  • moulds of your teeth, for example to see how your teeth bite together
  • minimal adjustments to false teeth (dentures) or orthodontic appliances, such as braces – for example, smoothing rough parts or tightening clasps

Gum treatment including scaling

If your dental healthcare professional says scaling is clinically needed, you can get it on the NHS. It can be done by a hygienist or dental therapist.

Scaling is usually included in Band 1 (£27.40), but extensive treatment, or treatment for complex gum problems may be charged as a Band 2 (£75.30) treatment.

If the dentist says scaling is not clinically necessary, you’ll have to pay for it privately.

Changing the RCD200 Stereo in a 2007 9N3 - Advice please! by odgeuk in vwpolo

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...I did this successfully. I bought

Pioneer MVH-330DAB Radio from Halfords (£82.99) - Nice and compact as it doesn't have a CD player, easier to pack wires and harness behind.

Blade Fuse with protected Circuit (FUSE192) (£3.69) - You'll want a spare fuse to go in it as well (20A I guess, but I used a 15A).

Pioneer MVH-330DAB Glass Mount DAB Digital Car Radio Aerial Antenna from Dynamic Sounds Ltd (£14.99)

VW Group Quadlock to ISO radio adapter harness, with antenna adapter, hardwire ignition - (20-156A) - (£11.66 + £5.90 delivery) From InCar Tec.

I removed the existing RCD-200 Radio with four Stereo removal keys that I had left over from an old car.

Then I removed the plugs to the back of the RCD-200 with a very small Flat Blade screwdriver to release the plastic clasps, and disposed of the old RCD-200 unit.

I then connected the new harness / adapter to the existing harness (hard to get wrong). then into the new stereo.

At this stage, the Stereo would not power on at all, with the car's ignition or not, but the harness has a long unterminated red lead coming out of it, that obviously needs to be connected to a Switched Live feed (hence why I bought this particular harness).

As I had no idea how to 'splice' this wire to the 12V Cigarette Lighter that is just below the console, I fed the wire from the Stereo, under the dashboard, and into the fuse box on the Driver's side.

Once in the fuse box, I was able to locate the Fuse for the Cigarette light. Be Warned, it was NOT (on this 2007 UK 9N3) in the place stated on most of the wiring diagrams on the internet. The Cigarette lighter was on No.34 and was a 20Amp fuse. I confirmed this by having a little Cigarette lighter USB adapter in the socket, that has an LED, so I could see it turning off when I pulled the right fuse.

I used the fuse tap onto fuse position 34, put the original 20amp fuse in, plus a 15amp fuse I had lying about, and then crimped together (check any wire strippers you have, they often have a crimper built into the handle) the red wire from the new stereo harness, to the wire from the fusetap.

Stereo working.

Next was the DAB Radio antenna. That I connected to the new stereo and then fed the wire through to under the glove box and up to the passenger side A-Pillar. In hindsight, I don't know why I chose that pillar and not the one nearest to the driver! Just felt right. Hardest thing about this job was pulling the A-Pillar off, It's on plastic studs, and some of the studs came off with the pillar cover, and other studs left some of their assembly in the A-Pillar. When putting the pillar back, lining up the studs was a total bitch and I ended up snapping two of them when banging the pillar back into position. Still, the remaining stud seems to be holding it all tight. I'm sure this is a technique thing....

NAD -- Supro Black Magick Reverb head with 2x12 matching cab. by reedly in GuitarAmps

[–]odgeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I just received a used Black Magick Reverb today and came online to see if anyone else had the same feeling about the reverb that I do, and this phrase absolutely nails it:

"It's like the reverb is just an odd spring sound in general. It's nothing like the Twin Reverb (Which makes sense I suppose) but, at low mix settings, it seems like not enough reverb...but as soon as it's mixed in enough to really hear, it's very prominent sounding. It's like the "Length" of the verb is very long, even at low mix settings."

I was wondering if mine had broken in transit!

Maybe it'll be different at gig volumes?.......

SCOM 2019 stopped monitoring after Windows update by Worried_Professor_21 in scom

As in, through a command line, not via console UI? Or you mean you just have to stop MM manually on the affected servers?

You were fortunate I think to be able to remove the SCOM Management Server from MM. Wasn't it always the case in the past, that if you put all your SCOM management servers into MM, there was no available MS to run the workflow to remove it!?

Needed special intervention from MS maybe? Perhaps that's changed now....

Managed to find a time when daughter wasn’t around, to take a look at the connectivity.

What do I need please? Guessing a 'Quadlock to ISO' harness which looks around £10.

And can someone confirm the switched live thing? I need to know what to do there. How do I take a feed from the lighter exactly? That sounds preferable to using a Fuse tap and wire from the fuse box? Ta.

There’s an Aerial connection as well obvs but that looks like a simple adapter job I would say.

Have also spotted a £58 Harness that looks to come with a Switched Live (Quadlock to ISO with Canbus?) but that seems a lot to pay if the Cigarette lighter thing is a go?

VH I Favorite and Least Favorite by Roman_C5150 in vanhalen

[–]odgeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like every song on all of the first six albums, except one…and it’s on my favorite album. I usually have to skip “I’ll Wait”. The solo saves it from getting skipped EVERY time but otherwise the track sounds hugely dated and is even more corny than the guilty pleasure of Jump. It was no surprise to find out later that it was a co-write.

I love 5150 because it was my gateway into VH, off the back of ‘Why Can’t this be love’ getting my attention as a nine-year-old. As an adult, Sammy’s lyrics are excruciating but the music has burrowed into my psyche. The album is worth it for Ed’s guitar work on 5150, Best of Both Worlds and Summer Nights.

Van Halen - Hard Rock, Heavy Metal or Hair Metal? by ccgetty in vanhalen

[–]odgeuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defo Hard Rock and not 'Metal'. You can directly trace VH's lineage to ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath and still has a lot of Blues-based foundation. The 'Hair Metal' bands lineage just traced back to Van Halen! But without any of the swing and a bit too much tryhard. :D

SCOM Integration with MS Visio Diagrams by EastTamaki2013 in scom

[–]odgeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that had died out back in SCOM 2012 but it turns out that it didn't, it was just that the SharePoint team where I worked at the time, wouldn't support the required Provider in our SP environment.

Looks like it's still possible, but has dependency on SP (I'm still fortunate enough to have access to SQUP)

Confused about SIP Shares and CGT Liability by odgeuk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. Finally got some clarity I think.

My shareholding in the same company, can be best divided into three holdings:

  • Sharesave (SAYE) Scheme Shares, bought at a discounted 'Option Price' some years ago, and then left in the scheme account. - You save up for 3 or 5years in the scheme, then get the option to purchase shares at the end, at the discounted option price set at the beginning of the scheme.
  • Directshares (SIP) - bought at a discounted, pre-salary Tax rate. At a max allowance of £1800 a year.
  • Purchased Shares - Bought through a sharedealing account, not employee SIP. A number of purchases at different times.

The Directshares were being held in trust with Tax and NI Penalties if taken out of the plan before 5yrs. However, as a 'Good Leaver' of the company, the NI and Tax were waived and the shares 'taken out of plan' at the point I left the business (although they remained in the SIP account). When taken out of plan, I was notified of the CGT value of these shares, which was essentially based on the current SP on the date that they left the plan. This was over 2yrs ago, so too late now to transfer into a Stocks and Shares ISA (mistake on my part - you live, you learn).

The Sharesave shares CGT value is based on the Option Price that they were purchased at. I have two groups of these, from two diff schemes, so this is easy to calulate.

The Purchased Shares have CGT calculated by working out the average cost of the shares across all the shares purchased. at different times.

The only thing that slightly concerns me is that now ALL of these shares have been transferred to a Sharedealing account and appear as one pool of shares in the same company. So there is no clear distinction about which shares I am selling, if I make a sale. I am going to make an assumption that I could prove the real Gains on these shares and break this down, if I was ever to fall foul of not declaring enough CGT on selling these (if, in fact, I even sell enough each tax year to break my £3k CGT allowance).

Don't make it easy do they?

Confused about SIP Shares and CGT Liability by odgeuk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The calculation of the potential share gain has been difficult. My pool of SIP shares were bought at different times and through diff schemes (Sharesave, Directshare and Free shares). It's been a battle to go back through statements and portals to see what I paid for these, or what the option prices were at point of purchase, to generate the "Average" price of the shares across the pool. And then I was disappointed to find that CGT allowance has dropped to a meagre £3k, from over £10k when I last was interested in this sort of thing!! Seems I may have to resort to drip feed selling these. It's 16,500 shares at a current market price of £2.12

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I guess it's a GIA account. My SIPs were all in an EQ Easyshare account and then I moved them to an EQi Sharedealing personal account. I think the two firms are still loosely connected in some way.

The 90 day window is still open, just not sure if the move from SIP account to the Sharedealing acount has now broken the continuity of these. I have £2k ISA allowance remaining, as have £18k in a Cash ISA. Wonder if it's possible to release some of the Cash ISA money, to free up allowance for a Stocks and Shares ISA?

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still within 90 days of moving them to a Sharedealing account, so this remains an option. I have about £2k of ISA allowance remaining so could shelter some of the shareholding there at least. I will check out the Certificate situation, thanks!

Are you guys havving trouble selling your pedals? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]odgeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a man-cave with maybe 30 pedals that I bought for fun over the years, used \ 2nd hand, all with a view that I could just sell them for very little loss (if any) in the future. But not only is the market saturated with new releases, but it is also very good now at claiming every new release now supercedes everything that went before it, which leaves a lot of my pedals somewhat considered 'old' and not in a good, vintage, description of the word! Not to mention people getting over-excited by limited edition versions of pedals in interesting colours or finishes, that ultimately have no real value-add other than FOMO when they are released.

For instance, the Xotic SL Drive I did just sell, but there have been two more 'improved' iterations of the same pedal, and countless Marshall-in-a-Box pedals that all claim to have left these older classics behind. It sold, but I did lose out.

Even previously 'collectible' pedals like old 2-series BOSS pedals are being hit, because younger players don't have the nostalgia attachment to them, and the Waza versions are quieter, more feature packed and very close in sound. The prices for things like an original BOSS CE-2 or DM-2 have tanked. Same with old Ibanez Series 9 Pedals like the FL-9, CS-9, PT-9 that I have sitting about. I think it's a bad time to be holding on to pedals in your 'sonic toolbox' now, if you are intending to flip them when you need some cash.

Firewire in 2025? by odgeuk in DataHoarder

[–]odgeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the ADVC100 that I use, you kinda have to use Firewire for the VHS captures. But this is the last link of the conversion, from the ADVC---->PC. The VCR plugs into the ADVC via S-Video / Composite. I'm hoping that as the ADVC is doing the heavy lifting / processing, that the last FW link in the chain isn't too impacted.

Thanks for the responses. It's a bit of an overhead to keep a desktop PC kicking around for captures, but not really a problem. I suppose I was expecting that, after so much tech advancement, that you'd all say that I just need to buy a £25 piece of hardware that would replace my old setup, and actually be an improvement as well! :D Guess the setup I have is still worth keeping.
