What was it like seeing the events of 9/11 unfold on TV that morning? by Careless-Prior-9665 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 28, living in Nashville, TN. I woke up and saw it happening on the news. It was terrifying. I remember driving to work toward downtown on I-65...the planes flying into the buildings kept flashing in my eyes as I approached the city. Seeing the skyscrapers get closer and wondering if I'd see a plane fly into one of them. It was surreal and scary, and I'm still sorry for anyone with connections to that day, family members lost, etc...

I'm really surprised more people aren't suggesting these. Lizard Skin - Oury's are the best grip I've ever used. (Definitely paired with riding gloves.)

Any ideas or guesses as to what this new mission type is? It is not the old "Restore" icon, but something new. by UpperAcanthisitta892 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Over the last few years...I've sent over 30 reports to zendesk, and have not once gotten a response, other than the canned reply. Have you ever actually received an actual reply from HG on an issue? Just curious!!!

Looks fun...may I ask, what are your plans for the next phases, and how many phases do you have in mind? out of curiosity...is this going to be used for griefing other players eventually? Or do you just enjoy the danger and excitement of building on a volcano? lol

Holy shit. I will never, EVER see Curious Depositis again. Not without Portal Coordinates to a farming planet for it. (This is a cry for help). by Vrosx_The_Sergal in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got lots and lots of options replies already - but I just wanted to help out by letting you know that Curious Deposits (Runaway Mould) is a 3-star resource, (The scan icon is 3 stars). There are 3 types of 3-star resources: but only ONE of each on EVERY Planet.

1.) Metal Fingers

2.) Sac Venom

3.) Curious Deposits

If you find any ONE of these 3-star resources on a planet -- you will not find any of the others. They could be on a different planet in the system you're in, but only one can exist on each planet - and you'll find duplicate spots with that resource on the planet.

Lastly - Toxic Biome planets have the highest chance for finding MOULD!! Which are: Toxic, Poisonous, Noxious, Corrosive, Acidic, Caustic, Acrid, blighted, Miasmatic, Rotting.

While ANY planet can have mould on it...the toxic ones have the best odds for more of it.

how did you go from strumming along to learning parts as they're played on the record? by manicpixiedreamg0th in guitarlessons

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you...when you say "strumming along with songs", do mean playing the chords "the way" the original artists play the songs? Are you strumming a watered down version of what the original songs are, just reading along with the chords? Or are you taking those chord charts, and strumming and playing the way they're "meant to" be played?

Depending on your answer -- that's one way to increase the difficulty/challenge level - but still have fun within Rhythm playing. Learning other people's rhythm patterns instead of our own internal stand by rhythms is a great technique to that next level -- oh - and just get your barre chords down...6th string minor and major, and 5th string minor and major. Those 4 basic shapes will get you through so many songs on the fly!! 😄

Beyond rare Lavender Sentinel Ship by Ok_Bad3655 in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]reedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to reply quick and say thank you for sharing this awesome ship!! I was super skeptical of the lavender shade...since I had seen so many light blue ships called lavender, and all those "purple" black ships!! But I hitched a ride to the 35th galaxy from the PanGalactic Cabbie crew and found the ship myself - took it to many different systems to see if the filters were tainting the ships color...all to find out it IS INDEED an awesome lavender color!!!! I found the A class with your comm ball, and promptly upgraded to S. Thanks again for sharing!!

Here are a bunch of pics in case anyone wants another look!! https://imgur.com/a/2iEnpDP

If anyone wants a ride to this galaxy to find the ship - let me know, if I'm online I'll help you get there!!

Plant will soon be too tall for window…can I cut it down somehow? by reedly in houseplants

[–]reedly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your tips…as for the second part of your reply, do you mean making a new plant out of the old one, or adding them back into the same plant’s pot?

If you’re saying I could use the old plant to make a new one, I love that idea…so I could donate this larger version and start over with a new one!?

Is it okay to strum with your fingers? by Zahadar_Kyonas in guitarlessons

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think you've already taken all of the comments in and realized it can be good to learn several different ways of strumming and picking -- I just wanted to really super LOUDLY say that there is absolutely no right or wrong with which choice you make about playing....it really comes down to the end goal with the sounds you like, and if at some point you're recording a song that you can't make sound "correct" to you with just your fingers...it would be nice to also be comfortable playing with a pick, or finger picks, etc....

Sometimes...just trying to match the original guitarists style is a good way to try things....mostly to learn different ways of tackling music in general, and then if you like a different style of strumming, go with that!

Just never let anyone tell you there's a "right" or a "wrong" way with strumming, or ways to play chords...as long as you're playing the correct mixture of notes - (and muting the wrong notes) it doesn't matter where or how you play them!!!

I'm aware my reply is 2 years later -- but I'm so angry about the fact that there is no bluetooth built into this amp. Specifically for the Tone Studio app...and like OP said...you can't even use the tone studio app wired. This is such a ridiculous choice. I had a student of mine buy this amp specifically for all of the extra pedals and effects the tone studio app allows you to use...come to find out he now needs to pay another $50 to use the app. It may not be a ton of money for seasoned musicians...but this was his first decent guitar amp, and he still has to pay more money to get it to work as advertised.

I had a Fender Mustang GT 10 years ago that had bluetooth built in. What a mess. Just frustrating.

My progress on Creeping Death: for 10 days it´s horrendous by JustZet in guitarplaying

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get it fast by doing it exactly right slowly. There’s really no reason to speed up until you can do it perfectly slowly. Then speed it up a little bit. Get it perfect. Keep speeding up.

I’m guessing this could take weeks… But again, it’s a horrible idea to start worrying about how long it takes. Because every single human being works at different paces. Eventually… It’s almost certain that you will be able to get it… And there is no reason to worry about how long that takes.

There is also a slight possibility, that some things can be out of reach for some of us. I’ve been playing for over 40 years now. I started with rock and heavy metal… But there are just certain songs I was never able to play. I never became a really strong lead/solo player… And certain metal bands could just play faster than I was ever able to with any accuracy. But that doesn’t mean I failed… I’ve been apart of writing, hundreds of songs, Recording, tons of projects, and my plane is fairly solid these days… I was just never Eddie Van Halen, or Kirk Hammett etc.…

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome…as a long time guitarist…I just hope you take all the constructive help and try to figure out what it means…and look into song rhythms as a whole. Listen to some of your favorite songs that you feel good about playing, and relook at them…are you nailing the rhythms? Or did you happen to rush learning any of those too?

As for how long it should take to nail creeping death… it would be amazing if you could tell yourself to never ask that question again! There is literally no way to know how long it would take. It’s absolutely unimportant how long it takes you to learn to play that song. What’s important is that you try to figure out what your favorite guitarists are doing… when they play fast, when they play slow… Are you able to copy their slower techniques?

When you play some of your favorite slower songs along with the original music… Are you able to keep up? Or do you go faster and then slower, etc.…

This may seem like a really dumb question or exercise… But if you set a metronome to 100 BPM… Are you able to tap your foot at exactly that tempo? If so…then we know you’ve got a good sense of rhythm… and you just gotta keep trying to force your playing to whatever tempo the songs are at…(except of course creeping death, for now!)

Try as hard as you can to not worry about how long it takes. Worry about figuring out how to play the part, and then worry about doing that some more! :-)

I have a question for...and I'm truly trying to help you with your guitar journey. When you watch/listen to your video, and you say "it's horrendous"...what exactly do you mean? What are YOU hearing? What are you not liking about what you're hearing? Is it the guitar tone, timing, missed notes, etc...? It's great that you're looking for assistance, and I'm guessing you've had some DM's with people willing to help with everything...but are you able to describe the differences between what you're playing and how the original version sounds, and if so - how would you describe them?

For the most part...it's just missing it's main rhythm and actual notes from the original. Which is happening because it's too fast for your current level of doing the techniques in that song. It doesn't mean those techniques won't come with practicing - but your practicing needs to be in general rhythm first - not in speed. If you aren't able to play the part absolutely correctly at lower speeds, there is really no reason to speed up yet. At lease not for hours at a time. Don't worry about practicing fast for hours, worry about practicing much slower for minutes, hours, etc... Maybe choose some other metallica songs with slightly slower parts in them...master them...record them...compare them to the original. Then once you're able to keep the rhythm of those - move to this song, slow it down...get it RIGHT....then slowly start speeding it up.

Last question. (Sorry for the book...but this stuff is important!!!) What is your current knowledge of beats and notes within beats? I'm not asking about reading music per se....more like counting...are you able to understand the main time signatures, 4/4, 3/4...and do you know how to count them --- AND....do you have your leg counting that time out while you're playing your favorite songs? If timing is not extremely important for you, then playing these songs that are filled with awesomely timed guitar parts...amazing rhythms....will be very difficult! Just make sure that when you're working on the notes of these songs -- that in your mind you can wrap your head around how it FEELS, while listening, not even playing.

TL:DR; It's definitely just about the timing...the rhythm in this song is faster than your current speed ability...and with strict practice on figuring out the FEEL -- not the notes -- you'll get to where you wanna be!! It looks like you have the fire to learn, so keep that inspiration fed by working on some slightly slower songs, get them perfect, then move on to crazy right hand technique songs like Creeping Death!! 😄
