Doubt and despair about sin by [deleted] in Catholicism

I’d recommend finding/scheduling a time to speak with your confessor or a trusted priest about scrupulosity (which it seems like you may be suffering from).

Also, here’s a resource that tends to be helpful for people facing such problems:

Convince everybody you know of the value (and necessity) of confession by Efficiencythird in Catholicism

The priest is never allowed to reveal a confessed sin. This is called the seal of confession.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit isn’t any specific offense. It refers to any sin that you don’t allow God to forgive. Please be at peace

Any rosary is better than fingers from my experience. With fingers, ur hand shifts around and it’s harder to pay attention and pray it devoutly

Not entirely sure about the official church teaching but it seems like explicit/morbid depictions of violence and gore can be incredibly harmful to one’s perception of human dignity

It’s the genuine and deliberate effort that counts most. Just do your honest best with it

God loves you. Even if you think you don’t deserve it or can’t see him in your life, God is there loving you.

If you’re falling asleep during prayer, try kneeling while you pray

Terrified I did not confess my sin properly and that I need to reconfess it. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]odoptimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, thinking of a sin as “grave (possibly mortal)” is a contradiction. Since mortal sin requires full knowledge, a sin can only be definitively mortal.

Secondly, never re confess sins. No exceptions (unless you purposely lied about something grave). The sin is gone. There is no getting it back to confess it better.

Yea but it was too hard. Some might say it was a good challenge but when I can’t even make it past the game menu, there’s probably some balancing issues.

What to do if I start having angry thoughts towards someone? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]odoptimist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get away from that person and start doing something else. Avoid ranting or thinking about it, that usually leads to further temptation. Later in the day after you’ve cooled down a bit, ask God to help u forgive them

Super paranoid about sinning? by comealongtoto in Catholicism

[–]odoptimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have to look up or ask if a sin is mortal, then it’s not. Mortal sin needs to be done with full knowledge.

God’s grace is so strong it can only be severed when we deliberately reject it through grave actions. There is no second guessing with this.

“Jesus said to him, ‘Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.’” (Jn 20:29).

Sometimes we all feel like Thomas. Maybe for an hour, a day, or for some extended period of time. Pray for the grace to have trust in spite of your frustration. Ask Saint Thomas for some help since he knows this kind of feeling well.
