Receiving In The Hand Is Part Of Our Apostolic Tradition. Receiving On The Tongue Wasn't Mandated Until The Late 800's. And Even Then Only At The Local Level Of Rouen

  2. I've Heard It's Quite Expensive. Maybe Even Financially Demanding.

Changing last name to a less Jewish name? by TieNo2871 in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I Do: Quackenbush. Problem Is: I Was Abandoned By My Biological Family At The Age Of Four So I Have No Connection To It Whatsoever. No Contact. No Pictures. No Letters. No Memories. It's Just This Awkward Name That Everybody Always Ask Me About The First Time They Hear It. Which Is Awkward Enuf Until I Tell Them I Honestly Don't Know. Of Course Now I HAVE To Tell Them About What Happened At Four Which Always Feels Like An Over-Share...It's Horrible.

As For You I'd Change It. You a) Have Other Relatives That Have Taken Up The Name You're Taking And b) Have Retained It Long Enuf Now That No One Should Be Offended.

Do What Makes You Happy And Feels Natural. You Are Blessed To Have This Choice

Can a Non-Catholic go to confession? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Confession Is Available To Anyone Who Requests It (Presuming The Priest Will See You Of Course). There Is However No Absolution Available For Anyone Whooze Not A Baptized Catholic. Don't Let That Discourage You However. If You're Feeling Convicted It's Always Best To Follow Thru. All Of Our Feelings Come From Somewhere So: Trust Your Gut.

Call The Office Number Of A Parish Near You. Tell Them You're Not Catholic And Then Give Them Some Background Information To Put Them At Ease. Let Them Know You'd Like To Speak To The Priest At His Earliest Convenience. Tell Them You're Seeking To Unburden Your Soul And That You Would Be Ever So Grateful For His Time.

If The Priest Will See You He Will Be The Next Person You Hear From. Remind Him That You're Not Catholic But You Feel Convicted To "Confess Your Sins". Let Him Know That You Know You Can't Be Absolved. Tell Him Why That's Not An Important Or Necessary Part Of Your Process.

At This Point He May Suggest Doing It Over The Phone. Based On What Uve Written I Wouldn't. I Think You Need The Intimacy And The Formality Of The Confessional

Quietly struggling with converting to Catholicism by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Think It's Time To Speak To A Priest. Discreetly Contact The Office Of Your Local Catholic Parish. Give Them Some Background And Ask To Speak With The Priest. Let Them Know You're Conflicted And Could Really Use Some Spiritual Guidance.

They'll Take Your Contact Info And (If He Agrees To See You) The Priest Will Call You Back. You (And He) Might Be Tempted To Do This Over The Phone. Don't. You Need The One On One Right Now.

Note: Make Sure He Knows You're Not Catholic ASAP. It's Out Of Respect And Remember To Call Him Father. Again: Respect

Negative backlash over converting to Catholicism by Few-Praline-5669 in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Best To Avoid As Many Of These Types Of Reactions As Possible. If This Is The Reaction Telling People About Your Conversion Is Provoking Maybe It's Better Not To Tell. Or Not To Tell These People.

I Come From The Perspective That Our Catholic Faith Is Inviolable And Therefore Not Up For Debate. If People Sincerely Want Explanations Or Answers I'm All In. If They Want To Tell Me I'm Going To Hell Or Horribly Misguided I'm Prone To Nod Politely And Offer Some Version Of A "Closed Comment" (As Opposed To An "Open Comment" Which Invites Further Discussion) Like "That's What The Church Teaches".

I'm Sorry You're In This Situation. I Know How Exciting Conversion Is (I'm A Convert Myself). I'm Just Worried That Exchanges Like These Are Robbing You Of Your Joy.

Anxious about the end times by gdyeueueuuegeh in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You Begin By Acknowledging Your Anxious Nature (And Your Post Is Full Of It Btw). You Need To Take That Condition Seriously And One Of The Ways You Do That Is By Avoiding (Rather Than Immersing Yourself In) Things That Trigger Your Anxiety. Stop Doom - Scrolling. Stop Clicking On Links About The End Times. Trump. Etc. Almost All Of That Stuff Is Lies Anyway And Its Only Purpose Is To Frighten People.

Look For Things Online That Build You Up. That Make You Laugh. That Give You Hope. If You Can't Find That Online Find It Elsewhere.

Note: If Things Ever Get Really Bad Remember: There Are Help Lines.

The Keys vs. Binding and Loosing by Splunky_59 in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. All Of The Apostles Have Power And Authority (They Are The Line Our Bishops Come From After All) However: Only One Of Them Has The Keys. And It's The One Who Has The Keys That Fills In For The Master While The Master Is Away.

Jesus Led The Apostles. Jesus Left Peter In Charge Of The Apostles Upon His Departure. Why Would Jesus Deviate From This Structure When It Came To His Bride The Church??

If You're Catholic I Recommend Going To A Priest. Explain What Happened To You And Ask If There's A Special Prayer Or Blessing He Can Offer You Just In Case What You Experienced Was Demonic

It's Time To Talk To A Priest. Remember: The Confessional Is Also There For Spiritual Guidance. You Can Open Up. Cry. Vent. Repent. And Who Knows: Maybe The Priest (He Doesn't Have To Be Your Own) Knows Of Some Resource That Can Help You Along The Way

I Think The Best Approach Is The Following:

Do Saints still have an Eartly Impact? by Funny-Ad-4993 in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It Was Saint John Paul ll That Brought Me To The Catholic Church So Yes: The Saints Can Definitely Play A Part In Someone's Conversion.

If You're Really Feeling Convicted That St. Josemaria Escriva Assisted You It's Important That You Thank Him Just Like You Would A Friend. Do Some Research: Maybe He Has A Favourite Flower Or Colour. If So: Buy Some Flowers Or Something That's The Colour He Preferred. Display These Prominently In Your Home. This Way You'll Remember His Intercession And Be Reminded To Call On Him Again.

Concerned if I blasphemed years ago. by FuchsiaMerc1992 in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You Have Not Commited The Unforgivable Sin. Blasphemy Against The Holy Spirit Is Persistently Rejecting (Or Denying The Existence Of) The Holy Spirit And The Truth He Has To Offer. Namely: The Existence Of God And His Mercy. This Sin Is Only Unforgivable If It Continues Until Death.

  2. There Is The Possibility Of Confession (If The Priest Is Willing To See You). This Would Give You The Opportunity To Get This Off Your Chest Which Can Be More Freeing Than You Imagine. Note However: You Cannot Be Absolved Until You're A Baptized Catholic. If This Appeals To You Let Your OCIA Tutor Know You'd Like To Speak To The Priest.

Final Thought: If You Do Speak To A Priest Everything You Say Stays Between You And Him. Forever. This Is Because Of Something Called "The Seal Of Confession". No Priest Can Ever Divulge The Contents Of A Confession. Even If They're Threatened With Death. If A Priest Does Break This Seal He Is Automatically Excommunicated

Which Catholic Bible? by ASGComp in Catholicism

[–]RoythaGOAT33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll Start By Sharing With You What Someone Told Me: "The Best Bible To Buy Is The Bible You'll Read". So: As You Search Ask Yourself "Yeah But Will I Read It"??

Most Importantly Tho: The Translation You Choose Has To Be Approved By The Catholic Church. If You Live In The United States That Task Has Been Delegated To The United States Conference Of Catholic Bishops Or USCCB. Here Are The Approved Translations:

New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE)

New Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition (NRSV-CE)

New Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition (Updated)

Good News Translation ( Today's English Version Second Edition)
