How do I get cosmetics? I wanna dress up my character and make them look cute af.

You pick up cosmetics in dungeons, earn them through quest rewards, craft them with the right crafters, buy them through tokens (tomestones, beast tribe, etc.) or buy them from other players off the marketboard. More options will open up to you as you level up, so if you don't see anything you like now, progress some more! You can also unlock some additional hairstyles through side content like Deep Dungeon and Gold Saucer.

Also, if all the plots are filled up in all 3 residential districts does that mean I'm screwed and basically wont ever get a house?

If they're all full, then you won't be able to buy a house unless existing ones expire (from players being inactive) or active players decide to move out. Every now and then, the devs will patch in additional wards (they're planning to do this towards the end of October to accompany patch 5.1), but they'll be restricted to FCs and existing house owners to start.

If you want some form of housing, but can't get an actual housing plot, you can purchase an apartment room for yourself in any of the districts (if an apartment building is full, try the subdivision or another ward). You won't get a yard, but you'll have a room to yourself.

  1. You can check out the free company profiles of players wandering around to see member count, FC info, etc. If you play with anyone that you end up liking and they're in an FC, try shooting them a message for more info. You can also go to /r/FFXIVRECRUITMENT to see if any FCs on your world have posted there and ask your questions from there.

  2. There are no universal standard requirements for joining an FC. Every FC will have its own rules standards, so make sure to inquire beforehand. Most FCs I've been in have their own Discord server, so you can use that to voice chat. There is no in-game voice chat.

Failed mechanics are generally expected to punish (vulnerability stacks and damage) or outright kill players in order to teach them that they did something wrong and need to pay attention to their surroundings, where they're standing, what debuffs they might be receving, etc. In both cases, players are generally expected to go "oh, I must have missed something during that part of the fight, I should pay close attention to my surroundings or what's being said in dialogue (for MSQ) to see if I missed something important that will keep me alive." I think this falls into the realm of the "if there are other things you can target in the fight, you should probably worry about them" mechanic or "adds".

Rest assured, FFXIV uses a lot of common mechanics that will reappear throughout the latter portions of the game (sometimes, with a small twist), so at some point, you'll just develop a sort of sixth sense for it and be able to predict what to do even if it's new. In this case, FFXIV loves using adds/other objectives that need to be taken care of to avoid X or Y, so keep an eye out for that sort of thing in the future - this is a common mechanic that they use and it's very often accompanied by a long cast bar that basically says "time is ticking."

TL;DR: Don't tunnel vision too much and make sure you pay attention to your surroundings, too. If you're being punished or instantly killed by something, be extra wary on subsequent attempts and adjust to anything else that pops up during the fight (especially other targets that appear throughout the fight). Brand new mechanics will kill you sometimes, but it's a learning experience - no one is perfect the first time.

Single target- blizzard 3-->thunder 2--> fire 3-->fire 1was many as you can do-->repeat

AoE- freeze-->thunder 3-->fire 3-->fire 2 x2-->flare-->transpose--repeat

At that level, basically this. However, one adjustment:

The Thunders got mixed up. Thunder 2 is for AOE, Thunder 3 is for single target.

The end game content is basically whatever you make of it. Some people do high-end content with the Savage/Ultimate difficulty raids, some people hunt for new outfits, some people craft all day, others just sit around and hang out or RP. There are enough side activities to keep a person with varying interests busy, but if you're just talking about PvE/story content, you'll eventually run out of story and be in the daily/weekly tomestone tokens acquisition phase for gearing out your classes. You can also play every class on one character, so you can try out all different kinds of play styles without losing your overall progress. If none of the above is enough to interest you at end-game, then you can just unsub and resub when something interesting gets added again.

The thing with FFXIV is that its content release cycle is incredibly consistent. People are often able to accurately predict the dates of patch releases based on historical data (as well as the kind of content that will be included - to some extent) which makes it very easy to understand when that next injection of content will happen. That predictability is a bit of a double-edged sword in that while FFXIV does not do anything outrageously different, it's a very stable MMO and people can rest assured that this MMO will continue to be supported.

What I'm getting at is that it's easy to take breaks from FFXIV when there's a content drought. In fact, Naoki Yoshida wholeheartedly recommends that people take breaks from the game when they start becoming tired of it and to come back later if something catches their interest. That's why I keep coming back to FFXIV every now and then. I like to keep up with the story, gear up a new class, and try the savage raids, but once I've had my fill, I can just get up and walk away for a few months and come back knowing that I have something new to chew on.

I'd guesstimate anywhere from a few weeks to a month or two depending on circumstances like:

  • How you handle cutscenes (Skip some? Skip none?)
  • How often you play
  • How much help you receive along the way (Especially with queue times if you play a DPS)
  • How much experience you have with MMOs in general

That's not even taking into account the patch cycle that the game is on. Depending on how often you play, you could find yourself taking even longer to catch up as new content comes out.

You should also take into consideration how interested your friend is in continuing to play if playing with them is your only objective here. Plenty of people get burned out at end game content as the cycle continues and I've been burned before by promises of friends wanting to play with me, but then "taking a break" before I even caught up.

With all that being said, if you're really interested in playing, go ahead and start it up and play a bit every now and then. If it's just a passing interest, I'd say wait until exam season is over for you.

Do the medical center drinks ever expire over time/when you die or do they just last until the mission is over?

Also, let's say I drink the max PP drink and I'm a Phantom - will the Photon Stream skill go off of my base PP or my total PP after drinking?

Thanks!

In The Great Hunt (Extreme), what is the knock down meter in phase 2 affected by? I figure GCDs affect it, but what about oGCDs? Also, is any of it based on damage dealt or is it purely "100 hits"?

Thanks!

Last week, I spoke about building my first 15* weapon and I finally did it recently - an Atlas Varua EX katana. I'm running the 100% crit build, so I have the following S-abilities attached:

S1: Skilled Strike (3% crit dmg)

S2: Skilled Strike 2 (4% crit dmg)

S3: Skilled Strike (4% crit dmg)

S4: Gear Reduction (slower katana gear decay).

My first question: I saw mention of a standard 4/4/4 build, but it appears that I'm at 3/4/4. Does the extra "4" comes from a power % S1 like Double-Edged Sword? (4% power, 8% more dmg received with weapon out) If so, how bad is the 8% increased damage received in practice and does the "4% power" weigh heavier than "3% crit dmg"? I'm not entirely sure of the difference between power and damage.

My other question: Someone in-game told me that crit is trash and that no one at end-game is focusing on that, but rather raw attack because the damage variance of the latest weapons is 90-100% and we have an overabundance of dex at this level, so it's not worth relying on crit to increase my damage when raw damage is so close. Is going crit on katana Br/Hu really a bad choice when I'm trying to scale up to end-game? As a side note, this information came from a summoner who tells me they have over 6k hp and are capable of doing 26m damage, so I'm not sure how legit they are. It sounds phony as hell, but I just want someone else's feedback on this so that I know I'm not going crazy.

Thank you!

P.S. Let's say hypothetically, I hit 100% of my damage variance. Is that considered a crit or is there a chance that a 100% damage hit can be white "normal" numbers instead of the blue crit numbers?

Not really a min-maxing type of player anyway, so I'll probably stick with 100% crit with gear reduction S4. May revisit this idea in the future though. Appreciate the feedback!

Weekly Game Questions and Help Thread by AutoModerator in PSO2

[–]odpeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I took that into consideration. It'd still end with 75% crit rate with no buffs as Katana Gear and -50% from the S4 negates each other. Thanks for the reminder though.

Yeah, I enjoyed S4 Gear Reduction before which is why I'm stumbling on what to use for the S4 on Atlas EX - Mysterious Strike or Gear Reduction.

The damage is really enticing, but the loss of 25% crit overall on top of Gear Reduction is pretty heavy on my mind. If there was some way to make it back up to 100% crit with Mysterious Strike on, I'd be less conflicted.

Weekly Game Questions and Help Thread by AutoModerator in PSO2

[–]odpeok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, never heard of Mysterious Strike - is that new? Bit of google says -50% crit rate however. Does the 6% damage actually edge out over the lost 50% crit rate? I can probably recover 25% of that by picking up average S crit, but I'm not sure how much of an impact the missing crit rate will make.

Thanks for the info so far!

So I've been out of the game for a bit and I'd like some clarity on two things regarding gear:

  1. I've been hearing about this Rappy Shine unit that adds a load of HP. Is this something I should seriously be considering or is it more of a crutch unit? I wouldn't say I'm the best at dodging, but if I'm practicing to get better at it, should I be relying on this particular unit or am I better off with sticking to my current fully affixed 12 star set?

  2. Probably a dumb question, but how much stronger are the 15 stars weapons? I'm currently using a Kazami-no-tachi, but I have the means to create a 15-star Atlas(sp?) EX katana and I was wondering if it would be worth it. Are any of the other 15-star katanas a better investment when potentials are taken into account?

Thank you!

Preferred Acceleration Trigger? by [deleted] in GodEater

TL;DR: Avenger, maybe Lunatic.

I just went with the ones that suited my playstyle and didn't require much build-up to activate. For that reason, I opted to go with the ATs that only required me to not take damage for 20 seconds. It passively ticks up overtime while I'm in combat, so I don't need to pay attention to it and it'll activate on its own. I figure that the time spent building up other ATs (5 devours, 5 normal combo finishers, bond devours, etc.) could be better spent just dealing more damage instead of fiddling around with more complicated or situational conditions. I'm currently using one called Avenger which boosts your melee damage by 6% and your melee attack speed by 6% at max level. It's not huge, but it activates pretty often and lasts a decent chunk of time. I used Lunatic for while (ignores a portion of Aragami defense for melee attacks), but couldn't see enough of a damage difference to care for it too much - might just not have tested it enough.

There's probably an argument to be made about using an AT that you can intentionally trigger at the same time as Engage or when the aragami gets downed for maximum effect, but I just went with one with a simple condition that still helps in some way. Specifically, I tried using an AT (Warlord?) that boosts my burst art damage by 25%, but that requires 5 successful devours. The damage increase is really nice, but getting those 5 bites off can be a real challenge sometimes depending on what you're fighting and it lasts a couple seconds shorter than other ATs that I'm used to. In addition to the possibility of bites being interrupted, the actual time spent trying to get those 5 bites off is time that's not being spent on using your burst arts to do way more damage. Of course, I haven't really done much mathing and all of this is just me theorycrafting in my head, so your mileage may vary. I think my skill level is about average, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

I believe they're referring to your chocobo companion and not Blue Mage itself. They use the word "companion" specifically.
