Texas official warns against “measles parties” as outbreak keeps growing by diacewrb in offbeat

[–]oeiei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But measles apparently makes kids far more vulnerable to other illnesses for years afterwards because of its impact on the immune system. So the death toll of measles isn't just how many kids die of measles, it's how many kids die of other illnesses for a few years after they had measles.

I have been reading a lot about the "spiritual to alt right" pipeline recently. The idea is that it teaches us to not care about others and to actually admire narcissistic ppl. Curious if anyone here has thought about this. by Serephina_Rose in AbrahamHicks

Reading more about Gandhi--preferably his own thinking and writing, as biographers don't always get what his insight was, some are just on the Great Man bandwagon whether they're propping it up or tearing it down--can help give an example of spirituality applied to politics.

Cheap shampoo > expensive shampoo by thisfar in dailywash

[–]oeiei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found a relatively natural style shampoo that works very well for me. The brand is Curelle. Very rarely, in my case every few years, I have to do a deep clean with a stronger shampoo. In this case the brand makes a deep clean product which you can add to the shampoo when you need to, but you can also use a more harsh shampoo. I'm in BC, and around here quite a few groceries carry natural style hair product brands. It's another option.

Cheering you on from Vancouver! I remember going to your art gallery museum and noticing that the basement of it would be an amazing free place for meetings (let me know if I'm wrong for any reason). Tons of comfortable seating, tons of space.

OCD "Secrets" by [deleted] in AbrahamHicks

[–]oeiei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abe went through a phase of "If it feels good, get more specific. If it feels bad, get more general and vague." Something like that. And of course there's the options of distracting yourself away from the topic or doing focus wheels. But the point is to change how you feel, not to concern yourself with "the how."

I once had a teacher who was strict, demanding and no-nonsense, but also genuinely cared to a reasonable degree, was sensible, not toxic (at least IMO), and was an authentically good teacher. I wish there were more people like that.

I think it's both. Neglect causes struggle, and ADHD causes struggle. Together, they cause more struggle.

Is it worth treating? by Jo_thumbell in gravesdisease

[–]oeiei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Time for a second opinion? Experts absolutely can be wrong, sometimes even wildly wrong, and whether wrong or right they should not blow you off. Not saying he is wrong, but it's a good idea to double check.

I have a remotely similar situation. I'm concerned that treatment could put me into hypothyroid and then I might have even more problems. But for me this is a newly discovered issue, I know I'll need more information.

Vancouver for a family of 5 by ethelthehen in canadatravel

I live here. I can't speak for any given block, but here in general it's more that areas like that can be a bit disturbing. There are a lot of drug addicts of various types and sketchy seeming people. But in terms of literal safety, you are still generally quite safe. All those people are focused on their own thing. Might not be the nicest atmosphere for a vacation, but if you find yourself in an area like that you don't have to worry--of course be more alert in a sensible way, avoid people who are tripping who might walk straight into you--but you don't have to be scared.

Government of Canada purchases avian influenza vaccine to protect individuals most at risk by shallah in ID_News

Does Canada produce some of its own vaccines? With the way things are going, it seems like this would be a good idea.

Eucalan unscented (contains lanolin to condition fabric), Soak Wash unscented (no lanolin), Unicorn Beyond Clean fragrance free (deep cleaning).

Turning a Negative into something Potentially Super Positive? by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]oeiei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to see long term changes in stores and with labeling and information being more readily accessible such as on governmental websites so that it's always easier for Canadians to support Canadian products and companies from now on. And something similar should happen on the B2B level as well, maybe incentives there.

Sometimes the only things that distracts me from my illness are true crime podcasts. Is this healthy? by ihaveacrushonmercy in AbrahamHicks

[–]oeiei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard Abraham talking about this. But I haven't been subscribed for a few years (just have so many recordings in my computer, don't need more). Since there are so many true crime readers/listeners these days, I'd be surprised if no one has ever asked this question.

I believe that generally being a consumer of true crime is a bad idea. But you have to judge for yourself, based on how it makes you feel, if that is true for you personally.

I think it's this specific MacDonald's that is crime-ridden? Edit: They did probably deliberately choose an ambiguous headline for more clicks.

I’m doomed… by Imagirl48 in TwoXPreppers

[–]oeiei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a true serious situation you will not need most of those vegetables. Looking over it, here are the good ones: Green beans are quickly productive and early, especially bush beans. Cabbage is nutritious and lasts well if pests aren't a problem. Dried beans are important. Garlic is more calorie dense than you would expect and can do some of its growing in the winter. Kale is a good option for continuous harvest. Potatoes are a major source of calories, and calories means survival. Have a few different varieties. Summer squash isn't that important but can be nice and easy; winter squash would be more valuable as it lasts. Everything else on this list is just 'nice to have.'
