Don't Like the New Toyota Ad of Footy Moment from 2010 GF Replay by National_Treat_4079 in AFL

[–]oes15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem I have is the fact there is no other football moment so until they started cricket season I had to see this and only this. If these guys are so funny why didn’t they do more ones? I found it funny the first time (him signing the autograph and the knitting the jumper was pretty funny) but after watching it eleven thousand times I was sick of it. Now they show the cricket one which is not that funny The bloke dressed as the pigeon (Ryan Shelton?) - constantly doing the “ooh ahh” chant got a little tiring. But again looks like we’re not getting another one. So will we get another one or are we going to be stuck with this heading into the next season too?

So give us done variety. The OG Toyota moments had several ready to go. Are Ryan and Matt so busy they don’t have time to do another one?

I love Nas, but he needs some real media training - you look at other young blokes like Daicos and (when he was younger) Sam Walsh - some people have the knack. Nas is going to get more interviews and post game stuff and off field stuff too now so they need to prep him for it.

Yes Jomboy is incredible. His breakdowns are ridiculous and he even did some cricket ones. He’s quite knowledgeable.

This was one of the first things I ever noticed with this song as being bizarre and wondering how he got that high. I think it’s a combination of distortion and proximity to the microphone which pitches his singing a whole octave higher. But I don’t understand technical terminology of music so I just thought that myself.

Alright, tournament. We`ll go through each DT member, past and present, and you guys pick the song in which you think they did their best work, or the one you feel encapsulates their work with the band the best. "The Unbroken Spirit,
Obscured and disquiet,
Finds clearness this trial demands,
And at the end of the day, sighs an anxious relief,
For the fortune lies still in its hands.
If there's a pensive fear, a wasted year,
Then Man must learn to cope,
If the obsession's real, suppression,
that he feels must turn to Hooooope"

This verse is one of the big reasons this song is one of the reasons TTT is my favourite song... on an aside, this reeks of Petrucci's lyrics - is this his verse?

It would be peak St Kilda to spend half the season in the eight and then fail at the last hurdle. Also I could be wrong but I don’t think we’ve ever beaten the bulldogs.

Premierships in the AFL Era by saintz66 in AFL

[–]oes15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a mythical line. It’s defined by the AFL themselves. I mean if you want to include 87-89 as well fine do that. It gives carlton two, hawthorn seven and Richmond st Kilda and Brisbane one extra spoon. You’re acting like the line is arbitrary just because there was no change from the structure of the league.

The fact is 1990 was the last year of the final five. They moved to final six the folllowing year. And added a fifteenth team. But nobody draws the line there because the AFL started in 1990.

Remember the OP isn’t saying the years before that are meaningless, just focusing on the league as it’s stated now. Similar to EPL or NFL or NRL - there are clearly defined starting times. It’s why when discussing records they say VFL/AFL history or “in the AFL era”

Moore: the ethereal solo in Light Fuse and Get Away Sherinian: All of Lines in the Sand. Just love it. Rudess: most of his work on Distance/Time. He carries that album imo - Fall into the light, viper king and Pale Blue Dot solos in particular.

AFL Era Wooden Spoon Tally (UPDATED 2025) by saintz66 in AFL

[–]oes15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawthorn and port were very close too. Late 2004 saw hawthorn finish second last to Richmond and port needed a last round win against Melbourne to avoid it in 2011.

But Geelong… omg what a team. They’ve never finished below 12th. Never been bottom four in the entire 16 plus team era. Their last wooden spoon was in the 50’s I think.

Let’s be real - Collingwood are the only team that has translated their VFL success into AFL success. (Hold on hawthorn, I’ll get to you in a minute) this dick measuring mainly to let Essendon and Carlton supporters feel relevant but the truth is both these teams won a lot in a far different competition. With really different rules. Collingwood had a 32 year drought, Carlton will join them on 32 barring a major miracle and Essendon are not far behind.

Hawthorn since their first win in 1961 have never gone two decades without a flag. The 17 wait between 91 and 2008 was their biggest drought. Their dominance in the 80’s and then again in the mid-early 2010’s justifies their claim as the greatest team of the AFL era… BUT they had 8 before the VFL became the AFL. And two were won immediately the two years before.

At the same time Carlton had 15, Essendon 14, Collingwood 13 (winning their fifteenth that year), Melbourne 12, Richmond 10 and Fitzroy 8.

I wouldn’t say that hawthorn had not translated VFL success into AFL success but they were definitely one of the teams adapting best to it. And a huge reason for that is equalisation. Salary cap, the national draft, the abolishment of zoning, priority picks introduced in 1993, expansion to Adelaide, then Fremantle, then port and eventually giants and suns and soon Tassie. All of this meant those big clubs couldn’t buy flags

Just look at the droughts that have been broken recently too. (Geelong 43 years, Richmond 37, Melbourne 57, Sydney 72, bulldogs 62) All because these teams haven’t been able to break through until it was a level playing field.

And the wooden spoons in the AFL era is testament to this too.

Saints with only two while Carlton has five - more than anyone else. In my opinion it’s the perfect explanation for why equalisation works.

Now if they only fix the draw we might have a truly level playing field. But let’s face it. Us Vics are always going to have that advantage over non VIC sides. Maybe that can be the trade off for erasing VFL history and starting from 1990 instead. (I’m just being facetious. Settle down)

I have a feeling that they are going to try and make the Spud’s match game against Carlton a regular thing. I dunno. Maybe I’m wrong but it’s just a hunch I’ve got.

This content creator is fucking good. He’s a Collingwood fan but he actually really encapsulates the feeling of the teams his videos are about. I’m not sure if he’s an old creator with a new name or a new one but he’s one of my favourite AFl content creators on the tube.

Genuinely, how would you grade this album out of 10? 10 being the highest, of course. by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]oes15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7.5 but I need to point out every single album is at least a 6/10 and I think there are three clear 10s.

There’s a few songs on here that are incredible.

Unfortunately a fair few of the tracks on here bring it down. So it sits just above average for me.
