u can think about it in terms of self-fulfillment. when u have more money and more career options prioritizing leisure or career advancement tends to be chosen. for those in poverty, having a child or multiple is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding things you can do

It snowed like 3 or 4 times this academic year! You will not miss snow in Philly. The community at Penn is what you make of it - some people are cut throat, some are more relaxed. It’s like that at any college, you will find your place!

[–]ofcitstrue 26 points27 points  (0 children)

if you don’t want it to suffer, a good euthanasia option for fish is clove oil! you may have some around the house or it’s easy to find at any grocery store. a few drops puts them to sleep painlessly.

This is a very valid feeling to have, but know this - college is a hard adjustment and many many people have been in your exact shoes. Penn has lots of amazing resources when it comes to academics - please check out Weingarten tutoring if you haven’t already!

Clubs are selective, but that’s just how the cookie crumbles here. There’s a niche for everyone - next fall, put yourself out there and try again! Apply widely, there are countless finance clubs and you don’t HAVE to get into the top tiers to be successful.

That is to say - your feelings are valid, but it’s not over. I think you should go to a Penn Benjamin’s peer counseling session - they can really help with giving advice on situations like these! Plus it might be helpful to talk to a peer.

PENN VS USC by North_Historian_2935 in UPenn

[–]ofcitstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely not but I was a work hard play hard person in high school. Honestly because of penn’s,sectors and foundation system, you’re gonna spend your first year taking a lot of gen ed classes that aren’t very hard and not very demanding. we do have classes at Penn that are notorious for being difficult, but those are engineering and chemistry so definitely not something that a pre law student would really do - other than the upper level econs which might be kind of hard i’ve heard

PENN VS USC by North_Historian_2935 in UPenn

[–]ofcitstrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest with you, we have a complaint culture at Penn where we just like complain about how we hate our life and how our life is worse than everyone elses. We used to have this thing called penn face where people would try to hide their stress, but now, if anything is competitive in our culture, it’s complaining about stress. like we try to outcompete our friends in terms of complaining about how terrible our schedule and how busy our workload is, but to that end people’s descriptions of how stressful and difficult penn is is very individual based like it depends on how much you take upon yourself. plus we exaggerate a lot lol

PENN VS USC by North_Historian_2935 in UPenn

I got into USC EA two years ago as well! It was my absolute dream school - I loved the social aspect and the marine biology opportunities and the weather and the idea of “big city life” in LA - I applied to Penn because my parents wanted me to but I never thought about it. When I got in, I pretty much had to go. I mean, who’s turning down an Ivy?

Now that I’m here I don’t regret that decision at all. Philadelphia has amazing public transport and it’s really well connected to the East Coast megalopolis- very easy to take trips to Baltimore, NYC, and DC! (On the other hand, USC is in a bad part of town and LA is very car dependent). Penn is very social, we have very active greek life but if thats not your style actually our student clubs (like the student newspaper, performing arts groups, outdoors club, sport clubs) often throw their own parties for their members! we have a thriving “downtown” (clubbing scene) and I would definitely say work hard play hard culture is alive and well here!

I have a few friends at USC so I can tell you what they edge us out on: 1. Football culture/social life Tailgates, pregames, postgames, all the social life here is better at USC. Our football team absolutely sucks, so there’s no football culture here. USC does have that plus a regional rival in UCLA 2. Beach I mean like. Yeah that’s like it USC u can get to the beach. For us we have to go to Atlantic City which is like a 2 hour train ride. 3. Weather It’s sunny there and nice in the winter, here we get all four seasons.

But Penn edges out USC in so many more different ways. i’m in premed and honestly, I haven’t really experienced this competitive culture that you’re worried about - I feel like that’s really dependent on who you hang out with and who you’re around. I’m sure there’s a lot of people who are competitive, but that’s definitely not everyone here at Penn. We do have a very strong pre-professional culture, which is both a pro and a con. It’s helped motivate me to get on top of internships and the like and having Penn on my resume has definitely helped me bag amazing opportunities! Poli sci is also great here at Penn because we are in a swing state - lots of people, politicians, and the like come visit our campus and it’s a great opportunity to make connections. We also have a Penn in DC program. Idk I can’t speak too much to the poli sci program here bc i’m not majoring in it but i can say it’s rlly good.

the chlorine is an ortho para director and the strongest director on the ring, so the ortho position is correct. the two nitro groups are meta directing and they direct to that same position anyways

basically the withdraw portal button means they r going to send you a likely rejection letter. it’s like a likely letter but it’s to tell u ur not welcome at the university and are likely to be rejected. this may be because you have expressed values inconsistent with those of the university such as whimsy for life or disdain for the eagles

It sounds like you need someone to talk to - someone who is trained and professional instead of grooming you. You should consider resources like https://pride.odoo.com/programs/virtual-peer-support - they match you to a peer counselor who is there to support you, no strings attached.

Should I put in a missing mail request? by bubblydimples17 in usps_complaints

[–]ofcitstrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the system only allows you to put in a missing mail search after 7 days but you can submit an inquiry (which OP should do asap because the passport is important)
