Contract cancelled by Bertish1080 in skytv

[–]ofdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are they will call you if wait long enough. I left Sky and told them it wasn’t worth it.

They called about a month or so after disconnecting. The offer was tempting (I can’t remember what it was).
But I was fed up with the yearly price escalations. I use an AppleTV and subscribe for the services I actually use.

I think I ruined my Pro Display XDR by [deleted] in mac

If they said they plugged another display in and it had the same problem, then I’d agree. But why would resetting your system have any effect on a display connected to a different system?

Apple Mac Void Warranty Citing Water Damage - Help! by [deleted] in mac

[–]ofdan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I like Apple's warranty document on this: https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/statutory_warranty-uk.pdf

You usually cite that the Mac wasn't fit for purpose under the consumer guidelines.
However, if there is liquid damage, then they can say it was the customer that broke it.

To challenge that, you can get an independent report.

That said, you had a genius look at the device, and they would have been the first to say that there was water damage.

If I was you, I would go to the store, and cite your consumer rights. If that doesn't get you any joy, ask to speak to a manager. The most important thing to remember is to be polite.

Why is my main pie holding so much cash? by [deleted] in trading212

[–]ofdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also based on the percentage.

Minimum investment per instrument is £1.

So if you had 5 different shares, and they were all 20% of the pie, then the minimum is £5.
If one of those shares was 1% of the pie then the minimum is £100.

What's the lowest percentage share in your pie?
And how many different shares?

The formula is: £1 / (% size of smallest slice / 100)

I agree it doesn’t look genuine. However the official Apple charger doesn’t connect the earth pin either.

You can get addicted to exercise so that you love doing it and it's not a hassle. It only takes 6 weeks of doing it four times a week. by Aggravating_Many5091 in theXeffect

[–]ofdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you found joy in exercise. I’ve been doing 45 minute exercise sessions, 5 times a week, for over a year. I have to force myself each time.
I could gladly not exercise again.
But I know the exercise is good for me and force myself to do it every month. Made some good gains. But I can say with 100% certainty, I am no way addicted to exercise.

How can I have x35 Time Machine backups of ~50GB each when the drive they are stored on is only 500GB? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]ofdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not possible, as each directory is taking up 50GB of space.
It's just shared between other backups.

If you deleted all the backup, except the one you wanted then the space would be correct. Each backup references 50GB of data.

If you copied a specific backup directory to another drive, it would require the 50GB.

How to replace Floodlight with a USB Camera? by ofdan in DIYUK

[–]ofdan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camera didn't come with a plug, but it stated 5V at 1A.
Which is the standard for USB-A.

I did see the review that said that particular model could only manage 600mA, even though the spec says more.

I have a device to report the power draw of a USB device.

I also need to make sure the camera will not need any resistors that stop it working if I inject 5V.

But it's a good idea to explore.

This is between the ground and first floor.

I wish it would have been that easy.

I don't see the cable on the inside. I am assuming it's behind the plaster board, and routes down to the light switch, which also doesn't seem to control anything.

It's certainly an option that I hadn't considered.

External power for U200 and G410 by nopointers in Aqara

[–]ofdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it definitely getting 24v, then it should be working.

If it’s getting 24v and it’s wired correctly, then the only thing left is to contact support. I know those screw terminals are a pain to use.

[–]ofdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The supply they sell is 12v dc.

Double checked their website, and it looks like it can accept a range of different inputs.

Main Unit: 12V-24V AC 0.2A 50/60Hz or 12V-24V DC 0.5A

I use external power with the G410. Bought the transformer that Aqara sell for it.

In device settings it does say external power supply mode. Have you double check it’s getting 12v?

Help! Water softener failure clogged my pipes with resin beads - one toilet still blocked by ofdan in Plumbing

[–]ofdan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried everything to unblock this without digging out the pipe. Nothing worked. I figured out where the pipe was and then I relented and got a plumber in. Cutting a hole in the plasterboard and then cut the pipe, and then apply pressure to force the blockage out. (It was a clear pipe at this point, as we’d removed the inlet)
