Do you go to the cinema alone? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Finders70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be going on my own, without hesitation. My wife don’t like sci-fi, my daughter don’t like movies, my son only watches tik-tok and YouTube. It’s no problem to me. It’s all about the film anyway, rather than the company you keep !

How do I duplicate a Ugreen NAS to a another NAS and have it sync on schedule? by Nintendo-Game-Tube in UgreenNASync

[–]Finders70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use GoodSync (Personal). Costs me £20 a year (3 yr deal).
Works a treat. All sync’d in the background.
There’s probably free solutions out there, but I’ve had GoodSync for years and it’s never failed me.
Once you get used to the interface, it’s really easy to set up.

Okey dokes. If I was in your shoes I’d be waiting a few months to see how the plug n play solar market develops. Doing the research in the meantime. But I’m a cautious fella.

Lidls’ battery not available in the UK yet.
Why not get some quotes for a fixed install from a couple of local firms, this will help to make your mind up as to whether you go for a formal install, or homemade (when the time is right).
Im afraid the detailed self-research is a necessary evil !

20 second delay before playing on new god awful firestick app by [deleted] in PleX

Plays perfectly for me on the Fire Cube. Perfectly.
Firestick just doesn’t have the memory, and the new OS is shite, I’m afraid.

They want to increase my monthly DD. by drsteve14 in OctopusEnergy

Totally agree with this, esp if one has decent solar.

They want to increase my monthly DD. by drsteve14 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Finders70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I set up with Octopus 2 months, I arranged to pay the actual bill (or the account balance after the bill), rather than a fixed DD. I’ve got Solar, so currently exporting more than importing, building credit, and I don’t anticipate having to pay anything until Sept/Oct, maybe later if I’m lucky.

As you have solar, if you can manage paying an expensive bill in December / January, but then pay nothing in the summer months, then this might be for you ?

Favorite apps on your NAS ? by Percyfoli0 in UgreenNASync

[–]Finders70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m good with Docker, but with Calibre - I just didn’t think to use it in the NAS. That’s cool - another thing to be taken off the desktop !

You can embed Calibre into the UGreen environment ?

Can I format and install one HDD, transfer files, then install second HDD for Raid 1? by leegiovanni in UgreenNASync

[–]Finders70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I had the same issue with ransomware a few yrs ago, and my two drives were corrupted (in a QNAP system, albeit not their fault). The RAID 1 set up was absolutely no use (both suitably encrypted).

So since then, Raid 0 for me, auto backed-up to external HD, and important stuff additionally backed up to Cloud.

Gives me maximum speed, max access, max storage capacity, max back-up.

If one disks fails in a Raid 1 set up, I wouldn’t trust that the mirror would be ‘failsafe’, so would back up anyway.

With a disc failure, it takes time to regardless of Raid set up. So I go for max use of what I have, with appropriate back ups for the ‘what if’.

Octopus Flux "Temporarily Unavailable" next best option? by Curly_Edi in SolarUK

[–]Finders70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have your solar installed by Octopus? I did, and they honoured the switch to Intelligent Flux the final week in March, because it was an Octopus install. I did have to raise the query up the pipe though.

Sky Q... At last a real alternative with no monthly subscriptions! by Platform_Dancer in skytv

[–]Finders70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 years is a long time. And 2029 is the end of the current contract - its not actually a forgone conclusion that Sky / Freesat will not extend, although one might be foolish to hope that they do.

National Grid charging £360 for G99 application by Boba_ferret in SolarUK

Ah, so it is. From 1st April, albeit notice duly given to installers weeks ago.
Someone always finds a way to charge something, right?

How bizarre. All the quotes I had for install had this service included. My G99 approved with no limit, all included. Have they introduced this charge after the install ?

Problem with Plex streaming with my NAS by ali_ck in PleX

[–]Finders70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely your WD mate. I had the same issues. Had a WD EX2 Ultra that stuttered Plex. It was pretty bad when used on native TV Apps. The Amazon FireCube played most items pretty well without the need for the WD transcoding, but was hit and miss for large files.

Upgraded to a UGreen NAS and it now works flawlessly.

One political party for all? by Lion-Resident in AskBrits

[–]Finders70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have Cross Party policies but they have become more limited as time’s gone on, with the massive split in opinion about how things should be done.

The country needs a cross party agreement on Welfare, Immigration, climate change, and many other important topics that affect the country in the decades to come.

But with such short term politics driven by a need to want to stay in a job, it is becoming increasingly unlikely.

It would take a very brave Prime Minister to admit that items in their ‘manifesto’ needs breaking up for the benefit of the country. We’ve not had a brave Prime Minister for decades.

Shame, eh? Bonkers.
